Knob Ends

  1. I knew that would catch your attention :D

Can someone please advise how to remove the bar end/weight thingies. Do they just prise out? There's no screw (at least that I can find) to undo and it appears to me they're just a very (VERY) tight fit but I don't want to force them and damage them or the handlebar end. You can see a couple of marks where I've had a go at it already :(
    TIA.

  2. In twist pull out,...oh hold on that's the use of a bayonet.

  3. No idea but I would think the end would be connected to the bolt that expands inside the bar, if so try unscrewing the end. If that fails have a cup of tea or a beer or a whiskey and have a re-think.
That's the best I have to offer today. ;)

  4. They're a push fit. Not dear to replace and cheap from dealer. I usually get a pair of slip-joint pliers and wrap the jaws with (a lot of) insulating tape and then grip and pull them out. Not saying you won't mark them, but I've removed them with zero damage more times than I've marked them.

  5. Are they the standard ones, they look aftermarket to me, agree with above the originals are a push fit.

  6. I only looked quickly but they look like the plastic domed ones on the 748 / SS era of bike, without checking on my SL or 748 I don't know.

  7. Your probably right, it's the grip end that's throwing me.

  8. Thanks fellas. They're on an 09 Monster. The grip end that's throwing @Birdie is probably because there are Grip Puppies fitted on this bike and I turned the end of it back over so I could get access.

I can't see they actually weigh anything (much) as they seem to be made of plastic. I was thinking of removing them in order to fit some bar end mirrors but wanted to retain them for onward sale with the bike when that time comes in the future. I was guessing they are just a tight push fit but wanted to make sure.

    Thanks once again.:upyeah:

  9. i put some black insulation tape over the silver handle bar end between the grip and plastic end weight to hide it.
