so after purchasing my shiny new bike lift, the feckin bike has fallen off to the left. Luckily or unluckily , the only damage is the silver hand guard, this has snapped off in two places , at the bar end and at the other end also. There seems to be a few bits bolted to it including a Fluid reservoir. So , can I buy just the silver plastic bit? How much are they? Is there a better aftermarket bit as it’s very flimsy
yes, about £35 odd & yes (other guys will be along with bar end/bark buster options) Here's mine from conquest racing' CNC ducabike hand protectors & ilmberger carbon handguards.
Actually they are £40.20 each, don’t ask how I know but I purchased one three weeks ago. Simply bolt on and off you use your original indicator.
The OE handguards are fragile, mine broke just leaning against the side of a van. That's why I went foe ILmberger guards.
Well Ill ring the dealer first thing tomorrow, hopefully they will be in stock and I can get it delivered Tuesday. Don’t fancy riding out with the fluid reservoir hanging off
Just installed Barkbusters on mine. I don't think they look too bad but I have never been very style conscious!
If I only knew how to create a link Dar I would, they're a German company who turn out good carbon kit. Can't remember the price exact now but they weren't cheap, I think the pair came to around £250+ GBP
For 1200 DVT but should fit? https://www.ilmberger-carbon.de/CarbonE/Multistrada-1200-DVT-2015_EN.aspx
Ordered replacement. Cost was £53.03 to Include postage. Downside is they have to come from Italy first so I’m sort of grounded . Hope they do t take too long, may look at aftermarket if they do
I bought a sealey mc365 The bike just fits on, but it was my error, The front wheel clamp didn’t hold it up, and when I released the ratchet straps it fell left
Looks like you need one of these - should come with one really! https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637206775/wheel-clamp-upgrade-for-motorcycle-lifts
Old - I broke one when I was in Sardinia. I splinted it with an Allen key and some cable ties, followed by lashings of gaffe tape. Held up perfectly all the way home even at motorway speeds.
If it's an emergency on tour fix, then I have in the past where only remnants remain on the handguard , cut open either a fizzy drink litre bottle or litre milk bottle and use that plastic sheet to overlay what's left of the original handguard.
I never really paid attention to these handguards until now. What a stupid piece of engineering; fastening the reservoirs to this weak piece of plastic? At a minimum, reservoirs should be fastened to the lever assembly such as shown below.
