Thought I might swap the plugs in my 1199. Started doing some research and saw that some dealers state 6 hours labour and remove the front wheel, remove rads, lower the engine etc to get at the front plug. Can this be so? Please tell me not!
The trim and air feed to the fan etc needs to be dropped down and the radiator loosened off but actually removing the radiator is probably just as quick and you could flush it at the same time
I just used the Eni ship stuff recommended in the owners book which Works fine You will only need a couple of litres I think mine took 1.8l the book says 2.6 or something
Nooooooo, dont do all that. Get a long reach plug spanner and; 1. Remove the conveyor on the left-hand side of the bike. 2. Remove the upper fairing on the left-hand side of the bike. 3. Disconnect the horizontal cylinder spark plug cable from the horizontal ignition coil. 4. Release the spark plug cable guide from the component mounting holder/tray. 5. Free the spark plug cable where it runs between the component mounting holder/tray and the front fairing. 6. If this cable has never been removed before it may be secured to the main harness where the harness runs between the horizontal cylinder/underside of frame and the radiator by one or more tie-wraps. Snip the tie-wraps. 7. Remove the 2 screws retaining the horizontal cylinder spark plug access cover located just behind the front tire. 8. Remove the horizontal cylinder spark plug access cover. 9. Pull the loose end (the end portion previously removed from the ignition coil) of the spark plug cable through the access hole. 10. Remove the spark plug cable from the horizontal cylinder spark plug. 11. Remove the spark plug. 12. Inspect the spark plug and replace if necessary. 13. Clean the spark plug hole, install the spark plug and tighten as described above. 14. Reconnect the spark plug cable to the horizontal cylinder spark plug. 15. Route the small end of the spark plug cable (the end which connects to the ignition coil) back through the access hole and back into position between the component mounting holder/tray and the front fairing. 16. Reinstall the spark plug cable guide on the component mounting holder/tray. 17. Reconnect the spark plug cable to the horizontal ignition coil. 18. Reinstall the horizontal cylinder spark plug access cover and secure with the 2 screws previously removed. 19. Reinstall the upper left-hand side fairing. 20. Reinstall the left-hand side conveyor.
Thanks for the tips I’ve ordered up the plugs and thin wall socket to do the job. And going to order the OEM agip pink stuff Must it be used with deionised? Can’t see a mention to that in the book
thats it, buy enough to use neat. my peugeot 207 long reach spark plug tool works a treat!! nearly threw it out years ago!!
thats a good picture, if you have a 3D printer, you could print it and pour it straight into the radiator?
Followed this guide and was helpful. I also removed just the two screws that fix the upper Rad so that I could push it toward the engine and up which just gave enoigh clearance to make it work. Thanks!
