Well that is the question. Do you love it or hate it? Wet or dry clutch? I was very sad when I realised my M600 came with a wet clutch . No clank rattle clank.. Gutted as I'd fallen in love with that sound. I'm saving up for a dry clutch mod .. Then preying I can talk beg and plead for the Job to be done as I'm too stoopid.
I like the dry clutch sound as its all part of the Ducati charm/character, but if it wasn't there I doubt I would miss it that much
For me it is part of the Holy Trinity - desmo system, belts, and dry clutch - a bike with anything else is less of a Ducati
I disagree. I prefer a wet clutch. The dry clutch clank sounds agricultural. Fine for something like a HD but not for works of art.
I'm afraid I'm with El T here. I think the dry clutches sound awful - like a bag of spanners being thrown down the stairs. I've always thought this though so maybe I just don't "get" it... For me they ruin the sound of the engine and pipes and would be better off quiet.
I was disappointed too when my SS was a wet clutch Though the engine sound kept me happy I always get school girl giggles when I hear a dry clutch for me it's part of the Ducati excitement and sound
thought I'd miss it when I went from the S4r to the 848SF I don't at all - to me now it is wrong on a modern back but yes should be on an old un
Did the quiet clutch mod on my 999, don't miss the rattle at all, and the bike seems much smoother in town.
I'm not a huge fun of the sound but I don't mind it. But being able to open the clutch and buy all sort of bling for it is a definitive plus  I wouldn't mind if it was a bit quieter (but mine is on it's way out so it's probably as loud as it can be) but I like all the sounds coming from the bike. When I first test rode a Ducati I kept thinking 'Is it supposed to make this noise? ...or this?' but now I really like it. It gives the bike more visceral feel.
Whats this then? Not heard of it before? i would be very interested if simple/ cheap to achieve as I hate the noise.
what is the quiet mod ? as mine has a real thud and clang but my ss is more of a ding , it may have something to do with with it being a slipper clutch
I always remember that when the flag dropped there was a rattling of clutches until the first bike fired.
Doesn't bother me either way but you do get a bit tired of the 'is it broken?' or 'is it supposed to sound like that?' questions (along with the 'one of your headlights is broken' comment), I just tell them it's a diesel...
