To clank or not to clank ?

  1. Completely agree with Dave on this one......

  2. I think my engine rattles like a pre-Evo Harley..........the last thing I want is more mechanical noise....

  5. Pasty - Quiet clutch mod discussed here (amongst other places) http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f41/quiet-clutch-mod-yes-again-6750/

Somebody will probably come long and go "not the quiet clutch mod again, don't you newbies know how to use the search facility?" - don't listen to it, and ask away, as loads on here have done slight variations on a theme. Also, another dry clutch favourite is the use of GS650 (iirc) plates in place of expensive ducati versions - have a search. Remember to use steel plates with steel baskets and alloy plates with alloy baskets.

  7. Wouldn't be right without the rattling! if its stopping you here the engine note get straight through pipes :upyeah:

  8. put 1 extra pressure plate in the front of the clutch pack.and bingo!......no more bike sounding like a skeleton knocking one out in a buscuit tin.

  9. When riding the monster, hankered after a dry clutch even though it sounded lovely as it was.
Now when I fire up the 996, it makes me giggle and I love it along with the pipes: orchestral polyphony ;-)

K did have an Angel chase him to say that he thought something was wrong with his S4R due to the racket it made, made me laugh at his confusion when K told him it was supposed to sound like that.

  10. I deffo wouldn't convert to one, I've had both sorts, the wet clutch was quite a nice relief after a few years of dry

  11. I really don't care much one way or the other. When you ride it, it doesn't rattle much, unless you're stationary, in which case you've chosen the wrong route.

  12. Absolutely, gives the bike an exotic edge, marks it out as something special. :)

  13. Cheers Pete.

And thanks for sticking up for newbies! There would be some pretty sh**y short threads on here if you couldnt ask a question and simply had to refer to the "search box".

  14. Im reading the words, but I'm getting a different story.

  15. +1 for a dry clutch, anything less is just well...? Less!

  16. Wow im honestly gobsmacked !!!
the sound of a dry clutch is like music to my ears.
It makes me happy .. First of all my ears prick up then this big stoopid grin seems to spread across my face then I am well just happy.
I was sitting at the local bike shop a while a go and someone pulled in jangling and clattering.
The grin spread and spread ...
The man next to me shot me a glance and said " is that really necessary?"
" It sounds bloody dreadful!! Why they have to make that noise?"

He wasn't impressed when I said but its like music ( a tamborine :) )
I was gutted when I realised mine did not jingle.

I suppose I should step up and buy a 900m but I've put alot of money into my little M600 and I have put alot into getting him lowered and set up for me .
I really want to add a rattle to mine.
I thought that was a huge appeal .

So those of you who had the dry clutch then went to a new bike with wet do not miss it?

  17. i have a old 748 with the clutch(dry)mod.so no more CHANG CHANG CHANG...........

  18. cant sleep again he11cat?................its pish in'it....

  19. I love the sound of my dry clutch in the 999.

However all previous st's i've had riding 2 up with luggage destroy's them too quick.
My ST3 wet clutch is far more forgiving..... still sounds nice with the performance exhaust but I like the rattle better.:upyeah:

  20. For me it is simple 2V air cooled all should be wet. Engine sound is lovely and as air cooled already loud enough.

4V water cooled dry clutch to cover the other racket that engine makes :)
