Big problem discovered today. Crank shaft, bearings and one Conrod buggered..! 2012 Evo, have any mods been made, any do’s n don’ts? Anyone know of a good condition crankshaft lurking in a garage anywhere? Cheers Tony
for a longer stroke crank to fit you would need to find con rods that are the correct length to keep the piston crown height the same or within squish measurements, some combinations the piston pin is higher in the piston but thats complicated. this may well be possible as a variety of bore stroke combinations have been used successfully over the years. you would ideally also need a later crank with the splined shaft both ends so a 1098 does this but its 64.7 stroke v 61.2 848. which means an extra 1.75mm increase of stroke above the crank. As you are going to need to completely strip the engine to fit a crank then i would consider all directions including maybe a complete 1098 engine...
ooh also if the crank bearings are gone are you sure the crankcase mounting holes for the bearings aint oval too?
Thanks Andy & Coockster. Researching for my brother, it’s his bike gone tits. I’ll relay the info. Pretty sure all else ok as it was caught early and at low speed. One bearing destroyed. Engine is stripped and all other points of possible damage check out ok. Exploring all options. Ideally and hopefully we’ll find a good 848 crankshaft somewhere. Cheers.
Tried many places now, indie’s, fleabay etc. Anyone have an idea where to source a previously owned crankshaft? Cheers
I know it's in NZ, but may be viable despite the cost of freight, drop him an E-mail, I have dealt with him many times, good bloke...…………. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/mo...tm?rsqid=2b1dcca9ecb945ddb3fc30bf42d08b76-004
Thanks for your responses fella’s. Been advised it’s far to much damage to effectively make a repair. Will try the guys in NZ.
