Have Ducati Made Any Pigs ?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by oldtech, Jul 6, 2019.

  1. By that I mean any models that were just impossible to love ,
or even to get along with .
Bikes that were a cart-load of trouble and strife , even on a good day .

Disclaimer : before I get flack from any animal lovers , activists etc .
I have no prejudice at all towards pigs , or any other animal species
.... well maybe rats , and mosquitos , and that wasp that lays it's eggs
in a living caterpillar , and the fish that can swim up a stream of pee .....
    ... :)

I've only ever owned one Ducati , ridden quite a few others , and known
a good many owners who have shared their experiences with me .

But I haven't heard stories about any particular Ducati model that just stinks .
It's a light-hearted question , but I'm curious to read any tales from other owners.

  13. I guess it’s all personal taste when it comes to looks. Don’t know about how good a lot of them were as a bike to ride and own.

I liked the early multistrada, if for no other reason that it was ‘different’.

To me the newer sports bikes, looks wise, don’t do it, the earlier ones ‘stood out’ from the crowd. Particularly the 916 at the time of its release.
Of the more recent ones the only ones that stand out for me are the diavel and the scrambler.

Hope I haven’t upset anyone, just my opinion.

  14. As others have said the Paso is certainly a “challenge” & the multis particularly the early ones are just horrific. Don’t mind the Diavel looks wise but it’s not my taste personally

  15. Now, I love the Fugly because

    (1) almost everyone who slates it has never ridden one,
    (2) almost anyone who HAS ridden one, loves them
    (3) I know some of those who call it fugly, have definitely ridden things from behind without looking at it's face and
    (4) Unlike some of you poofters who just want pretty bikes that spend most of their lives in the workshop/garage/dealers, riding a fugly means you really love ducati's :D

Now, if you want ugly ducati's, then their answer to a 1990 cbf1000, ladies and gentlemen I give you

  16. No idea how Ducati managed to sell those things. Hideous!

  17. I don’t care what the multi rides like, it’s mind-blowingly ugly. In my teens, I’d have taken the ugly bird home if that was all that was on offer but wouldn’t want to be seen riding her o_O

  18. Yep .... that one certainly looks like it fell out of the ugly tree ,
and hit every branch on the way down .

I'm starting to wonder if everything with "Multi" in it's name might be cursed

Italian styling can be breathtakingly beautiful ....
    .... but when they get it wrong it's a horror-show :-

I rest my case your honour .

  19. i like the Multipla. but it wasn't always the case. i mind seeing it for the first time coming off the transporter and thinking, wtf?. then, after walking past it and studying it in the showroom several times it kinda grew on me, it reminded me of an elegant horse drawn carriage. a two tone bronze 1900jtd elx? model. then i got to PDI and test drive it, ferk me. superb. considering what else was available at the time, quick and handled v,well. much like the fugly. which i did have a love hate relationship with. but i managed to do what Ducati couldn't, and made it reliable. loves it.
