Organisations Giving Best Offers To New Customers

  1.

Right, Boiler & Central Heating cover is with British Gas. Renewal comes in a few weeks ago and has jumped from £224 p.a. to £276 p.a. a hike of over 20%. A quick search with the meerkats confirms that I can get it much cheaper with almost anybody out there, so decide not to renew and park it until today.

Run the quotes again today and who comes out cheapest for comparible cover? British Gas :astonished: I knock the claim excess to £50 from the default of £99 and they want £180 p.a. but only for new customers, almost £100 cheaper than they offered it to me on my renewal, who's been with them for 3 years.

So I call them up to tell them I'm not renewing and they ask me who the cheapest quotes I have received are with. So I reel off "EDF, Scottish Power, but the cheapest were you lot, but you won't give it to me because I'm only a loyal customer of 3 years, not a new customer" Anyway, within 10 seconds, the lady on the phone has said she'll give me that deal. Then there was the caveat that they wouldn't do this next year. Strange because I seem to remember they did the same thing last year. :grinning:

Now I feel like telling them to stick it, but not one to bite my nose off to spite my face, I accepted. I feel a little dirty, a little satisfied and a little miffed.

  3. Did that at my old house, but the circuit board went in my boiler when I 1st took this out, which I couldn't have fixed. And as the house is now 10 years old I don't mind paying the £16 a month to have the full system covered.

If it were a combi I'd probably not have it. But the cylinder is almost as tall as me and I've had issues with a 3 way valve in a previous house.

Anyway, they do earn their corn. They turn up for 10 mins every year and vacuum the boiler out.

  4. Waste of money. I fix my own. Mostly its diaphragm valves and the odd microswitch. But generally, its those goddamned diaphragms. Or wifeys over pressurised it and done the expansion vessel. Shes banned from touching the boiler now. As that was a ball ache to fix.

  5. Loads of companies offer new customers better deals than existing customers. Sky are another example.

  6. If you have mates surely one should be a plumber

  7. My brother-in-law is. I doubt he'd pay for a new boiler, 3-way valve or cylinder though.

  8. And how many years have you been ripped off? :eyes: got mine at trade and fitted free 12 years ago, fixed twice for free since for minor issues - stuck valve :)

  9. Rubbish. That wasn't a boiler, that was your kettle, Elise. Stop fibbinging.
