750ss Speedo Cable

  1. Hi, I recently bought a 2001 750ss and the speedo wasn't working. I assumed that the cable had snapped but on closer inspection it's actually about 75mm to short to connect to the speedo. My bike has twin front discs which I don't think it was originally supplied with but I can't see how this would affect anything. I believe the correct part number for the speedo cable on my bike is A40310101A but does anyone know how long this cable is ? I need a cable of approximately 775mm outer cable length. I'm sure it's routed correctly but the manual I have doesn't actually show the cable route, it's certainly the shortest route.
    Thanks Des boy.

  2. If it helps, my '96 750 ss came with twin discs as standard

  3. Thanks for your reply Old rider. I'm fairly sure twin front discs were an option when new but seem to remember the seller saying it had been upgraded to twin front discs at some point in time. Not that I can see why that should affect the length of the speedo cable as even on the single disc the cable comes from the brake discs side of the Wheel. Just can't understand why the cable on my bike is about 3" to short !! The cable is routed from the wheel, around the rear of the brake calliper, between the forks and past the front of the bottom yoke which seems the most direct route.

  4. i've just popped out and measured an early M900 and it's 26" plus or minus half an inch from extreme of knurled nut on both ends and certainly has a happy, nice curve at lower end. I have no idea what the std correct length should be as I sought out a slightly longer than std assy as fitted to a Moto Guzzi a few years back.

  5. Thanks for that Chris, the speedo cable fitted to my 750ss is 26" but about 3" to short. May just be easier to get a 30" cable made up but my enquiring mind keeps questioning whether it's the wrong cable on it or something that's been modified on the bike.

  6. Are the forks the correct ones, or are the original forks dropped too low through the yokes?

  7. I see yours is a later year, not sure if the positioning at the top end is the same as earlier speedo? There certainly is some mystery here, as mine is more than adequate as said, and has a nice run.

  8. Hi Ducati dad, I can only assume that they are the correct forks. They seem to be mounted correctly in the yoke but under heavy braking the clearance between the front wheel and the lower faring is minimal, do you know if that's noreally?
    Thanks Des boy.
