999 Screen Screws

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Old rider, Aug 4, 2019.

  1. I thought I would make a start by removing my broken screen
    The screws look as though they should take Allen keys but a 1.5 mm is loose and a 2mm doesn’t fit.
    Do they take a 1.75 mm Allen key or something else altogether???

  2. I use a small torques bit . Don't know what size, just the one that fits . Never had a prob

  3. Hmmm, I did wonder if they might be torx but I don’t appear to have any that tiny.

  4. Torx bits.Titchy ones, I cannot remember the size.

    Shush, chiz : o )

  7. Thanks Nelly. The smallest I have currently is T10

  8. Don’t you have one in the tool kit?

  9. Interesting point- will have a look :)

  10. Sadly not, just a box spanner, two Allen keys and double ended screwdriver:(

  11. Had they had included mull-grips and a hammer, it would have been everything you ever really needed. Alas ...

  12. The 999 toolkit is quite sparse in comparison with the one on the 998 and later 748s, this is from the 999 manual, not sure much is missing from yours OR and it looks like I have the same in mine

    Tool kit and accessories
    Stored in a compartment inside the right fairing panel is
    an envelope with:
    An Owner's manual;
    A helmet fastening cable(Monoposto version);
    A tool kit including:
    - Box wrench for spark plugs; at the opposite end,
    combined wrench (inner diam. 10 + outer diam. 14);
    - Tommy bar for box wrench;
    - Double-bit screwdriver;
    - Allen key for fairings (Monoposto version);
    - Screwdriver for rear shock absorber adjustment.
    The twin-seater version comes with a helmet fastening
    cable, which is stored underneath the passenger seat.

  13. My BP had the Allen keys for fairing removal included in the kit.

  14. Allen key for fairing removal, yes but no T7 torx bit for screen removal.

  15. Isn’t the torx bit on the other end of the Allen key?
    Not trying to confuse here but the earlier models had them.

    Cheers, Ian

  16. Not in the case of the 999, no.
