according to visordown...........https://www.visordown.com/feature/features/general/top-ten-most-popular-ducatis-sold-uk Based on Department for Transport’s vehicle licensing numbers - new and secondhand – to see which models are the most common on British roads as at September 2018 1. Multistrada - 3600 on the road 2. Scrambler - 2000 on the road 3. Diavel - 1485 on the road 4. 899 Panigale - 1184 on the road 5. Hypermotard - 855 on the road 6. 848 - 835 on the road 7. Monster 696 - 820 on the road 8. Monster 821 - 780 on the road 9.1299 Panigale - 708 on the road 10. 1199 Panigale - 690 on the road Obviously a bit of jiggery pokery with the numbers as they’ve lumped several models together when counting the Multistrada, Scrambler, Diavel and Hypermotard models, but interesting nonetheless.
If there was a calculation where all the Monsters were "lumped together", I would expect a different name at the top of the board.
Post #1 informs me that accordingly to the first three choices, older riders are still ruling the roost at the box office & youngsters don't have the money for the product
And all Panigale models too. That's why I mentioned it. Just adding the Panigale's on that list gives you 2582, and adding only the two Monsters in there would give you 1600 without all the other variants. Crap journalism to be honest, but I thought I'd highlight the numbers as I was interested.
Its an impressive number of sales for the Panigale, especially when you consider the cost (and therefore profit) on each bike. They must be making a fortune out of the servicing. Monsters have been available for 25 years so theres bound to be a big number.
That's what I thought and why I posted the thread. And given that this was done last September I'd expect it to be even higher now given the success of the new 1260 that hit the showrooms this year.
I saw the "non X" as being aimed at America, seems UK has started to warm to it, still not my cup of tea just for the way it looks - happy with the ride.
The XD is squarely aimed at the USA. The standard Diavel is more worldwide IMO. The new 1260S certainly attracts attention wherever I've been and everyone thinks it looks like Batman's "Bat bike". The fact it goes like stink and handles as well as a sports bike is a bonus
As you say, each to their own. I think the XD looks more acceptable to the average eye whereas the early version even with the latest update still looks like Frankenstein after too many big macs and missing a tailpiece. Similar approach resulted in the Bugatti Veyron
Possibly.......................................but only because they've been used to decades of the same styling from Harley Davidson
