Slipper Clutches

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Loverobot, Apr 3, 2013.

  1. Have got a slipper on my 1198s - its a bucci 6 spring type marked up with DP and has a lightweight basket
Never had a slipper clutch before
I also have a HM quickshifter again never had one before

When I change gear the gear change feels different - I am using the clutch normally as I would without a quickshifter - the gear change doesnt so much feel like it slides in but rather hevily slots in in that makes sense? Is this normal and is it because of the slipper /quickshifter or both?

When I let the clutch out I am used to slipping manually - now it kind of pulses through the lever - is the normal and should I just dump the clutch and let the slipper do all the slipping?

I want to fit a slipper clutch to my 748s because I am going to track it occasionally - mostly still road use

I am not sure of the options and am thinking probably better to get exactly the same so that I can learn about stack heights etc etc and apply the same knowledge to both bikes. Thing is the DP one looks mega expensive though there is a couple of ebay guys who do what look to be the same and much cheaper - they say they are DP but does anyone have first hand experience? I guess there are copies out there?

I also see there are other options about £400 eg the duca stuff on here -

What would be the best route ?

    Thanks

  3. I can't answer your 748 question, but in relation to your 1198 this sounds normal. I have a DP slipper on my 848 and it can feel like this. Just release the clutch and let it do its thing. By slipping it yourself all your doing is countering the action of the slipper. I don't know if this could do any damage over time though.

  4. Not sure what you mean by
"When I change gear the gear change feels different - I am using the clutch normally as I would without a quickshifter"

You dont use the clutch when you change gear with a quickshifter - throttle wide open and just slot into gear with you foot. Now this does not apply when going into first from neutral.

  5. Cheers ABMatt

Cranker - its more to do with how it feels at my foot? As in rather than snicking into place it feels like it very firmly engages - not clunking in but very definate in that it feels almost like it drops in? Very difficult to explain but the gearchange feels totally different at my foot than any other bike I have ridden

  6. Lever feel on the down changes is perfectly normal.

WRT to gear lever feel could this been the delay you have set on the QS?

  7. Will have a look again re the interval
May even disconnect it and see if that makes a difference

Anyone able to comment on the choice of slipper for the 748?

  8. Is it different than a conventional clutchless shift? I think my settings on the HM quickshifter are 70ms and 70 other things (bike is stripped currently so cant confirm)

  9. 748 slipper usual suspects - DP, Bucci, STM if purely for the track go for a track specific setup (steeper ramps)

  10. Do you reckon the ones on ebay are genuine ? Wonder if anyone has had one off him?

  11. I am ignoring the quickshifter and changing as per normal ie using clutch both up and down the box - hence I assume it should feel like a normal gearchange unless the shifter or slipper makes it feel different in some way?

  12. The quickshifter is designed to work with clutchless up changes. Changing gear normally negates it's function. So it would seem on the limited info that the QS is not affecting the gear change. Check your chain tension is correct also, this will have an impact upon the gearbox feel.

  13. Cheers - will check that !
Re slipper clutch choice for 748 - failry sure the ebay ones are replicas so will avoid
Choices are DP standard 6 spring, Ducabike or STM original
    They all appear pretty similar?
