Scandinavia Trip.

Discussion in 'Touring' started by dukesox, Sep 3, 2019.

  1. Hi All, we are planning a 10 day trip around Scandinavia later this month. Not by bike I hasten to add but the plan at present is to fly to Norway and pick up a hire car before then driving through Norway, Sweden, Finland and then ending up in Denmark before flying home. The idea is not to be stuck in the car covering huge distances every but instead stick to maybe 250-350 miles a day and stop often to enjoy the sights and culture. If we find there is 10 days worth of holiday in Norway then we wont go any further, the itinerary is loose . We would just as happily start in Sweden or Denmark and plot a different route.
Please post with any suggestions of places to visit and places to avoid.
    Thanks in advance.

  2. Never been but I plan to ride to that place and reckon that I'll spend all my time getting there and back. The topography is awesome. I'd go on a hike to base of Troll wall to see where Tony Howard set off from with the Rinmon Climbing club. The rest id take as it comes. Not much desire to visit Denmark and Sweden. Finland appeals.

  4. Oslo was lovely, didn't see much else but speaking to Norwegians at dinner, they said I would love the rural north. Helsinki was cool, drove a few days north, nothing but trees and lakes, massive country.
That's a lot of riding in 10days. Never been to Sweden. Enjoy and safe journeys

  5. Been to Rovaneimi in Finland (just south of Arctic circle/Lapland) but it's really a flight from Helsinki - be getting dark this time of year already , you can get a ferry to Tallin from Helsinki, which is nice.
Tromso in Norway is worth a visit I've heard, but, again a long way up

  7. Where isn't nowadays. Beer etc was very expensive. I'm sure I posted here that a pint of the black stuff was 15quid.

  8. We went about 10 years ago for our nephews wedding which took place on a boat on Oslo fjord. It was fab!

From memory I think I paid £10 for a pint and £25 for a pizza in a place called Drøbak. Drøbak itself was very beautiful and my lasting memory from there (apart from paying £25 for a pizza) was swimming at midnight in the Oslo fjord and it was as warm as Bath water:)

  9. Brilliant dude. I met some brilliant people there, the germans said next year was their turn because the beer was cheap, never heard a crowd show such enjoyment, it was deafening. Norwegians telling me about their military service, an Englishman telling me about his several years working in Japan and their ways. I love travel, I've met so many people I'd want to met again.
A bloke from Chile, best you could meet, we where in Toronto, Yeh, someday I will contact him.

    Sorry for babbling on.
