1299 Oil Leak After Fitting R&g Sliders

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Kaspar, Sep 8, 2019.

  1. Hi Guys ,
I had the R&G sliders fitted to my 1299s and took the bike for a spin only to find it was pissing out oil... I spoke to a friend and he had the same issue on his 899 . Has any one else had this ?

  2. Where does it appear to be leaking from?

  3. The right side . By the engine
    near the oil pressure sensor

  4. Worth bearing in mind that if you have fitted the ones with the metal frame work (which I think is the only option) then the bolts that mount the frames replace OEM casing bolts. I'm assuming they are the same/similar to other model versions. If they haven't been done up correctly or the wrong ones have gone in the wrong places you will get oil leaks. I have had it in the past on the race bike post crash where a damaged bolt hasn't been spotted and I've had a very minor oil leak in the place you mention. Quick change of bolt for a new one and leak fixed.

  5. Really ?
That’s so helpful . Thank you

  6. No worries, just make sure they are all the right length and nipped up. I think most of them pass through into areas where there is oil around so doesn't take much for some to escape.

  7. Mine has a small leak near the oil filler around the last bolt on the r&g frame. I’ll nip mine up and hope it helps.

  8. Same issue on mine.... retightened the bolts and everything was perfect

  9. What do you guys think about the R&G sliders ?
They’re very expensive and the labour to fit them is a lot too...
Nearly £500 all in if you get them done at a dealership...
on top of that the oil leak issue....
Seems like a lot of hassle. I’m beginning to regret installing the things. What other options are there out there ?

  10. I’ve got a set for sale, I won’t ride without them.

They saved my other 1098 when I low sided at porto 2 years ago :)

  11. Yes, on the face of it expensive but relative to possible cost to repair.
I feel better to have them than not.
The oil weep minor issue as it’s at the top of the case...fixing just needs nipping up every now & then.

  12. “Every now and then”

  13. Do you think it would be worth putting some locktight on the screws

  14. *not an advert* :joy:

Reading this with interest and the reason I chipped in with my experience is that I have used R&G kit since I got a brand new RC8 back in 2008. I am now on a 959 and although the team I ride with are sponsored by them I wouldn't ride on track without a full set of it. The case savers are mandatory at BSB anyway.

I have had fast fourth gear crashes and the bike was rideable afterwards. The case savers and axle sliders are a must and are easy to fit. Saved a fortune in engine cases, fork legs and swing arms because of them. I agree, the aero bungs are a little more effort to fit because of the frames and a little oil weep now and then does happen. Bearing in mind I have had a couple of very minor weeps in over 3.5k race miles this season. I have fallen off and not had a mark on the fairing because of them though. I don't think that bolt in the images is an R&G one though is it? The ones I have are pan-head allen bolts.

You could put a little liquid gasket on I suppose Kaspar but I don't bother as I check all mine after every session so nothing ever becomes and issue.

Some will argue that the aero bungs can cause the bike to pick up and flip in a fast crash but I think you take your chances. A crash is a crash and sometimes you are at the mercy of physics and a bit of luck. If you fall off on diesel on a roundabout and all you have to replace are a few plastic bungs you'll be glad of them. Even worse still you could be like that poor fella on the Norton in that clip that is doing the rounds ;) I'd have been flinging myself underneath personally but a bung would've helped.

This is from a crash at Peel (turn 6 I think) at Anglesey the other week. Just a foot peg and rearset frame to replace. No other damage to the bike, hole in my leathers and boot but my own fault for holding onto it for too long.

  15. Were you at Anglesey on the 31/1st with no limits? I was in the 1st paddock on the red/white 1299s

  16. No pal, I tend to only do ACU test days or race these days. I crashed on the test day with NG mid August. Last lap of the last session of the day, go figure.

  17. Okay... that Anglesey is a great track

  18. I'd always avoided the 'bolt to engine' ones....

  19. Guys ,
I’m going to do 3 days in Porto next week and my mechanic has advised me to change the engine bolts from the standard R&G to titanium bolts.
    M12 x 1.25 x 130 hex head
    M12 x 1.25 x 90 hex head

Because the R&G bolts are known to snap on track ? Has anyone else done this or experienced this?
