Seeing as I fancy doing something else this kind of thing interests me, it's just as bloody dangerous as riding i'm guessing so thought I will throw it out there to see if any other maniac does it? Schools or kit choices?
https://www.bhpa.co.uk/sport/power/paramotor/ https://paraglide.co.uk/ book uk paramotoring youtuber forums another forum worth checking ---- Radio kit, you might wish to get VHF certified. https://rsgb.org/ https://www.paramotorclub.org/topic/5292-regs-n-rules-in-the-uk/
No I don't, yes I wish too. I see them flying over in Wales when I get over there & wish I was doing it. I've done my VHF radio license with the RYA via soylent training. It's not actually the kit they use inland (illegally / dubious status) but it helps to show the establishment. You are trying to follow the rules. And as of yet I've still no plans to start training in paramotoring until 2020 at the earliest.
Im into kitesurfing, some of my friends that do the same also do Paramotoring when its not windy. I have been tempted myself. I have been looking at this school. https://www.skyschooluk.com/about
I used to paraglide until I went off the Skirrid one day and as I came in to land I caught a sink of cold air and dropped like a stone from about 8 feet off the ground. I only badly bruised my foot, fortunately, but I had to hike down the hill for about a mile with the weight of the 'glider on my back. It was enough to put me off for life and now I only fly in things with wings and motors AND redundancy systems.
One of the lads on the old visordown & TRC forum used to do it (Soapy for those that knew him). Think all the kit cost him about £6k at the time.
Someone died here in Southport a few months ago, he crashed at royal birkdale golf club. I believe the engine caught fire on impact, will let you decide on what killed him. Like any anything else, get good training and buy quality equipment.
Go for it. Bloke flys one over my house, and I mean just over it, nutter. Looks fun. Personally, I think skydiving would be safer
Seen videos of all sorts of people dying from sports in the air. Paramotoring is imho the safest option'
Change your viewing menu ffs I'd love to lean to fly, to me the best way is to jump out of a plane and if I can't fly, pull a cord, hopefully something opens
You know what, may well be safer than riding a motorbike. There’s no dickhead drivers to pull out in front of you or as in poor Denzil’s case rear end you. It looks interesting to me.
I fly paramotor and paraglider, it's MUCH safer than biking, no doubt in my mind though the stats would show a similar attrition rate. Just make sure you go with a BHPA school as there are quite a few non-affiliated 'schools' that may not be good for your future. And yes, it's fantastic!
Oh and don't buy any kit until you've learnt to fly, there's loads of rubbish on eBay and once you've learnt you'll know what you want and need.
Smacking into the ground is what killed him, why he smacked into the ground is another matter entirely, and sadly we'll never know. I knew him by the way
