SWMBO was approached some time ago on the high street by someone doing “research” complete with clipboard etc. Anyway it seems that she said she’d help with more research in the future. So this evening she gets a phone call from the market research company asking her to download an app which monitored her tv viewing and radio listening habits, to her phone and they’d pay her £20 for installing the app and £10 for every month she used it. When I heard this I told I’d not be happy for her to do this for obvious cyber crime potential. Anyway seems I’m the bad guy in all this for telling her not to do it. So was I right in doing what I did or am I being paranoid?
It will be interesting to see if any of her contacts list starts getting txts/emails Does she do online banking through her phone?
Yes........that’s why I said what I said. I wouldn’t care but a few years ago she had almost £3k spent on one of her credit cards overnight........thankfully the money was reimbursed and the fraud was traced back to a shell garage on the Woodhead pass. But I’m the bad guy for pointing this out! I’ll never understand women for as long as I live!
You fell for the does my bum look big in this? there is no win win. If you didn't warn her and something happened, it will be your fault, If you did warn her and something happened, it's your fault. In her eyes you don't trust her or think she is smart enough to spot a fraud site So, in order to retrieve the situation, do what men have been doing for over 2,000 years, apologise, say it was your fault and then if it goes tits up, use the guilt trip to buy another bike
Depends what they are tracking. Access to video and microphone without allowing every individual time is a big risk. )this is what FB, google, apple have been caught for, and why you chat about holidays then the FB ads magically pop up) If its just survey app, ie fill in a form every day with no background access (although how could you ever stop the illegal?!) probably not too bad
I can't see any good reason to do this. Your phone is private (especially if you have a banking app on it) and what if skims your contacts and location history. Plus it could message contacts whilst appearing to come from you. I wouldn't do it in a million years.
FYI - a wrong answer to this question is “your bum would look big in Texas*” *Russia is also a wrong answer
I wouldn’t be happy with it tel. All that listening in can’t do anybody and good can it? Plus if anybody ever listened to the conversations we had in are house prison would beckon for me for sure. I turned off all that alexa shit on my sonos system cos amazon kept sending butt plugs to my house lol
