Denzil Down

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Denzil the Ducati, Oct 3, 2019.

  1. Some Drivers seem oblivious to anything going on around them these days. Drivers are just to cosseted and shut off from what is going on outside.

  3. Hi. Please do not sit back and just accept a conviction for the driver. Your dad has been smashed up and needs/deserves compensation. It is paid by the insurance company, not the errant driver. Denzil may have aches and pains for along time. A little cash his way will help lubricate his pain. please get advice from a specialist as already suggested. People on here with more experience in these matters will no doubt be glad to help (already been offered I think).
glad he is up and moving. They do it quickly as it helps to keep mobile.

  4. Jack, I'll definitely impress this on him when he is less tired/drugged up. I think my mum is keen to keep it off his mind at the moment as she doesn't want him expending energy on it right now - I think his feelings about it will change when the drug dosages do! I'm sure he will be very grateful for the experience and advice of many on here when the time comes.

Looking at his leathers it's very clear how important they were in the outcome of this. His helmet also kept his glasses completely unscathed which really surprised me as he basically landed on his face. For me I think I am unlikely to want to get on the back again - I haven't ridden pillion regularly since my teens (mainly runs to drop me off at the stables on summer weekends, I ride horses rather than bikes!) but was thinking this summer that I missed going out. It does mess with your head a bit.

  5. It is dreadful when someone you love gets hurt. You are doing a brilliant job so stay positive and that will help both Mum and Dad.

  7. I think they possibly are and I don't ride in full body armour! Do more teaching now than riding myself anyway (I actually teach disabled riders as riding is amazing physio). In my experience horse owners and Ducati owners are equally passionate about their beasts. The big difference is that horse owners are fine with leaving a horse outside or riding in the rain - Ducati owners not so much :joy:

  9. My helmet was fractured but my glasses also were not even dislodged. Modern helmets are amazing...

  10. @Denzil the Ducati soooo glad this wasn't any worse, it sounds like you will ride again! What an awesome daughter you have, she really knows how to take charge of things, lucky for you and high fives to her!
@El Toro , yes we were instructed in riders training to ride like everyone is out to kill you because they don't see you. A friend just told me a story recently about when he was stopped behind a car waiting for it to turn. He saw a car coming up behind him fast and he decided to illegally go around the turning car to avoid being hit. The car coming fast did have to brake hard and luckily he was not still sitting there. BUT, a cop saw him go around that car, pulled him over and issued a ticket. He went to court to fight it and the judge said "the law is the law" , he had to pay the fine. My friend's response? "I'd break that law again to save my life".

  11. I guess that a little harder when your sat at traffic lights, I always filter to the front but sometimes there isn't a queue - and it's illegal in some countries

    Morning Denzil and Denziller :):upyeah:

  12. The worst thing here was the road was empty as he slowed down for the red light. Nothing as he looked over his shoulder (unusual for the time of morning - thankfully a load came round the corner just after it happened and four people stopped, including a nurse from the hospital on her way to work). There are 3? sets of lights on a timer (I don't live in the same town any more so haven't been on the junction in a while). Dad knows the timer well enough that he actually slowed down extra gently as he knew the last set were about to turn red which is why he very much believes the car skipped the two sets in front which would've already been red. We're expecting a visit from the police in the next few days to take a statement so he'll tell them this I'm sure.

    Good morning, anyway!

  13. It’s a long way down from a horse, with decidedly iffy brakes, and the bars and footrests are not terribly solid either...

  16. Yes, but selfies are soooo old hat :eyes:

  17. And don't forget the horses throttle can jam wide open without any imput from the rider. Then there is out of control "wheelie" on a horse which happens at random moments...

  18. I've done an out of control wheelie on a horse in Spain o_O

  19. How the hell can you do a wheelie on a horse? It won't stand still long enough to get the bike on it's back, Silly boy...
