Another household name goes to the wall because they want to have estate presence and not just online. Surely the govt have to do something soon about business rates & rents. It’s killing businesses. Sure, this one failed to innovate and drive modern value from its brand but, it has to be said, many will go look them shop cheaper elsewhere. Fingers crossed then\ 2500 employees find something for Xmas
They expanded in the Uk at the wrong time and purchasing another company with many high street outs..something got to give at the end of day.Piss poor business acumen.IMHO
The UK business arm of Mothercare has been roundly criticised in the financial press for burying their corporate heads in a high street presence and failing abysmally to capitalise on their relatively recent restructuring of loans and shop rents. Writing has been on the wall for some time and the staff have been right royally shafted by incompetent management just like Thomas Cook. Andy
I do feel for them but....having had 3 kids any trip to mothercare was financially invasive for me....bloody expensive stuff...i had no say in it though....
Just to add to your silly comment - I was agreeing with you - as they must be doing different in 40+ other countries as said on the news, still profitable - how you can misconstrue this is beyond me - Chiz on the other hand I know how he gets confused - it's the sugar
Certainly looks like the management have been left behind. But you only have to walk down any high street. Betting shops & charity shops. And coffee shops. Now FOBTY’s have been essentially banned, they will scale back the operation dramatically too. It’s a real issue. Towns are dying because of the lack of investment and lack of competitive trading positions. Yes mis-management probably cost these people their jobs. But when you see name after name Maplins to call out just one (Debenhams and even John Lewis are issuing statements) and then hear Corbyn attacking the Sports Direct guy, is it any wonder that retailers are piling ointment. Remember your pensions rely massively on these rents and the property ROI of commercial properties.
