Brand new 999R on the bay of fleas

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by BaggaZee, Apr 17, 2013.

  1. Too much money, why buy a bike like that and not use it? That's at used 1098R money and I know what I'd rather have.

  2. "VER THE YEARS I HAVE ADDED DUCATI EXTRA'S FOR EXAMPLE, FULL RACE SYSTEM,CARBON CLUTCH COVER,PETROL TANK CAP FAST RELEASE,REAR HUGGER ETC. ALL THIS WORK ALSO FITTED BY DUCATI DEALERSHIP"

But, you never thought to ride it? WTF!!!

  3. And you added slicks in anticipation of what . WTF more like

  4. So sad, hate to see this you see it all over the web R's, sps's , D16's etc really what's the point it's a "machine" which unless its been adorned buy some famous rider in its time. Will never be an investment why not just buy the minichamps instead of some impractical oversized ornament?

Hope it goes to a good garage surrounded by old paint tins and helps brings some joy to the face of its new owner every time they open the door and TURN THE KEY!

  5. It said in the ad that it was 'the most successful Race Ducati'? I thought that accolade went to the 916/996/998 series?

  6. The 10nth digit on the frame number on the plaque says its an 03 yet it also says january 04 . Think its a left over 03 with the newer swingarm that went on the R in 04 .

  7. The 999R was the most successful Ducati race bike . Most recorded wins anyway.

  8. It hasnt got slicks.

  9. Horses for courses I guess but its an awful lots of money to essentially waste on an ornament.

There is no such thing imo as 'too special or clean to ride', these are built to be used, I hope whoever buys it commutes on it in all weather and track's it at weekends, making the most of it!

  10. Ok looked that way on my phone :frown:

  11. Moved to Superbike

  12. I probably would TBH. Haggle a bit for either of them, then wait for the price to rocket. BUT... knowing me i'd have to buy another one to use so i could experience my investment at which point i'd lose my misses. For someone who's owned and loved one it will only make money long term.

  13. Do you think these will go up loads then? If you think about the 900ss be it MHR or Black and gold etc it's only now that they seem to be reaching "high end" money. How long until we are looking at 20k plus for a 999r then? And would you agree an unmolested 749r will eventually be worth more in the long run?

  14. Relisted, starting at £13k

  15. Now i'm sure there'll be someone here who knows more, but from memory the 999 won 3 world superbike championships and the 749 just can't say the same. I can't think of anything it's won TBH and i love ducati. So really, you get the same dodgy looks but without the pedigree. Investments are a waiting game unfortunately, i'd have bought a garage full of 80s/90s two strokes years ago if i knew what they'd be fetching today. There's already 996SPS' advertised for more than their new price. Probably not worth it yet, but shows the way the markets going.

  16. Agreed, I was thinking the 749r might become more valuable given the losses Ducati made when produciing and selling the bike. I must admit that I would rather have a mint early carbon 749r than an equivilant 999r. I seem to remember from the past forum a chap had one if not two of the race 749r's with the mega high revving engine etc. They were beauts!!
It will be interesting to see how things pan out....
With regards to the 2 strokes, I am exactly the same. I am after an early RS250 currently but can't seem to find the right one. The rg500's are now starting to go for serious money etc....
