We are going to Zell am See this year. One of our group has decided that this year he’ll drive and take some of our luggage/board bags/food etc. He’s allowing 24- 30 hours to get there from Leeds.
i'v only ever been to morzine/avoriaz. just chatting to the mrs and we would love to go back. just as much for the town as for the snow, i'm told a lot of these resorts just have a hotel and jack all else to do bar ski or board. not how I remember it at morzine.
Drove to Italy (Sauze D'oulx) last year. Stayed overnight at cheap hotel in Folkestone and got early train at around 6.00 then had steady drive across France arriving in resort at about 4.30. Had a couple of breaks on the way and no traffic hold ups at all, very easy. Used to do it overnight years ago getting off ferry at midnight and then driving non stop with change of driver at fuel stops but we were all much younger then, wouldn't want to do it now

I’ve been snowboarding to Morzine for the past 15 years and bar one year the snow has been good/brilliant. Last summer we went for a couple of days (friend’s 50th birthday party) and it was just as busy with lots of activities. I love Morzine and we’d be going again this year but we’ve bagged an apartment in Zell for €100 per person for the week
As I get older I’m finding my limits are falling quite fast in terms of endurance. Don’t know whether it’s in my head or body but pulling all nighters takes a lot more recovery at 45 than it did at 25.
If you're set on driving then you'll have to accept that it's two full days driving. Did it four years ago and same as Italy last year stayed overnight in Folkestone and caught an early train and then drove all day arriving early evening. It's a long slog from Scotland to any part of the Alps if you intend to drive and I do like the freedom of having a car when I'm there but 2 full days each way? I think probably not. Best option is most likely fly to nearest airport - probably Geneva and hire a car to drive to resort. Done that many times and has worked well for me.
