Golf Gti

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by panigale66, Jan 5, 2020.

  1. Looking at getting a new car and on my list is a golf GTI mk7 performance auto anyone got any experience of them and what mpg would I expect to get coming from a diesel I want pretty good miles out of a tank full,

  2. I have the Seat Leon FR with that VW engine and Audi DSG gearbox, awesome combination. Fast motorway miles mid 40mpg so between 500 and 600 miles. More sedate motorway miles probably over 50mpg. Around town probably drops to low 40 to high 30mpg. DSG has a crucial 40,000 mile oil change which is not cheap. Andy

  3. When I had a sports car, I'd roll up to lights and if some lad was revving the engine next door, looking for a drag race, it was invariably a gti or gtd golf.

  4. you mean things have changed and it isn’t a GTi anymore??

  5. I can’t comment on the performance/economy but be warned, they’re near top of the list for stolen cars in the North West. They love fast Golfs. Make sure you consider your car/home security (cctv, steering lock, decent front door etc). You can’t let the thieves dictate your choices, but be informed and careful.
I happen to think it’s a good choice and I’m sure you’ll love it.

  6. The oul scirocco was a classic.

  7. Dunno about a GTI, but I have a Golf R Estate. The DSG box is very smooth on the change, and I believe you can get the actual gearbox mapped to behave differently. Mines fine as is though. Fuel wise I aint ever seen the quoted MPG, usual average 30 mpg, but web it and that drops into the low twenties very easily. I imagine a GTI would be a tad more economical, but not comparable to a diesel by any stretch. If economy is a driver in your choice look at the GTD perhaps....

  8. I have a manual golf 6 gti,and i love it.
The 7 looks a bit better and is bit better on the gas.
But i nowhere near 500-600 miles,i get 500-550 KILOMETERS out of a tank.
One thing i like more on the 6 then 7 is the interior.
The seats in the 7 looks a bit normal, the 6 had those long headrest...
What other cars are on your list?

    Henk!!!

  9. Ha ha, I can relate to this. I put it down to a bit of innocent fun. I love a bit of traffic light drag action. Growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional :D

  10. Thanks for all the replies still a bit unsure which way to go on my list are
    BMW m140i
    Golf gti
    BMW 320d touring
    BMW 125d
I sold my civic type r because I got fed up of putting in fuel every time you jumped in the car and went to a diesel six years ago now it’s time for a new one and for me trying to get me to make a decision it’s like finding a pot of gold at the rainbow lol

  11. I had a 320D touring. It was a nice car, great for long distances, good on fuel but it wasn't very exciting.

  12. Honestly I wouldn't buy a diesel given what is now known about how bad the particulates are
I think diesel engines will become increasingly banned. Petrol may well hold resale better.

  13. Audi s3 Saloon?

  14. I’ve had a BMW 335D previously. Now that was a pretty damn quick car, good on fuel considering how i drove it, probably average 40+mpg overall, and its also available in estate/touring if thats your bag, I think its also available in four wheel drive now as well. If you needed more fun, they can be mapped and produce insane torque numbers, but have a scoot in one, they are pretty quick as standard.

  15. Not a chance really dislike Audi

  16. Diesel emission nasties have been known for many many years.

  17. Well now I know about them I couldn't buy another diesel car for urban use. When we change herselfs, we will go petrol, petrol hybrid or electric.

  18. Golf GTI. Who doesn't like a bit of Golf GTI in their life? :):upyeah:
