Electric Only?

  1. Don't even think how much oil costs, particularly if the house is larger than a 2 up 2 down terrace.

    It's horrendous.

Biggest laugh I had was on the Energy Certifcate I was given when I thought about selling the house.

The 'inspector' recommended ground floor underfloor electric heating and insulation at a cost of £1500 (wrong).

He hadn't even thought about the cost of removing all skirtings and floor coverings (which would probably all need replacing) plus the alterations to the staircase, because the bottom riser would be shorter and thus not comply with building regs (the work for heating would require building regs approval, so no doubt some jobsworth would notice the stairs were wrong).

I estimated the overall cost of doing all of it would be around £10K.

He even reckoned I needed time and heating controls.

The tit didn't notice thermostatic rad valves everywhere and a time clock programmer in the airing cupboard.

  2. So if you already have gas and the boiler goes pop post 2025 do you have to switch to electric???

  3. Yes, I think so :pensive:

  4. That's me buying a new boiler in 2024 then.

  5. There must big plans for power generation then ?No gas, more electric cars. Have not seen the infrastructure to support this in UK.

  8. Never was a great fan of gas barbecues.

Gone are your 2 stroke lawn tools, no more petrol ride on mowers. No more petrol motorcycles or cars. No gas heaters for your garage, or patios, unless you go get electric.

Yep, massive changes are coming. People focus on cars, kind of keeps you from thinking of the other items you use.

  9. I was told recently that there are going to more power outages in the future and should get a generator sorted. If by then I am allowed to buy the fuel for it

  10. Can’t imagine so, can you?! Imagine the impact and cost: sure it would be al l over the media

  11. Electric BBQ sounds shit.

  12. The media know nothing. They are too busy fussing about the monarchy!

Legislation was put in place in 2018 to phase out inefficient gas boilers; the regulation now known as ‘Boiler Plus’ stipulates that all new Combi boilers installed must have a minimum energy efficiency of 92%. The UK government hopes to phase out the gas network almost completely by 2050, and in March 2019 it was confirmed that from 2025 it will be illegal to install gas boilers in new build homes.

So you may be able to replace gas with gas in old houses.

It already is not available for commercial property.

  13. Charcoal is great, unless we will be living in smokeless areas.

  14. Who owns and will own our future power stations?

  15. When the government wakes up from its fantasy, most will be Nuclear and owned by the French or Chinese. The UK has 'forgotten' how to build them and nobody here can be arsed to do the construction.
