Ducati St2 Wont Rev Past 6k!!

  1. Can someone help,

My 1999 st2 944cc wont rev past 6krpm, if you push it it does eventually creep past but slowly, it really struggles, the bike has been sat since August and has the same fuel in it from when it was stored, would this be causing it? Or could it need a service? Please help only had it 5 days and it's annoying the hell out of me!

  2. Everything can be fixed but nothing that has been sitting since august will be a 5 minute fix, you will get there though.

The obvious points as with any bike, me personally I'd check the plugs first. I'm sure some of the techno geezers will pop in soon

  3. I've ridden it a couple of times to work and back as less than 5 miles from my house just to give it a run, rides perfect, doesnt splutter or have any misfire issues and ticks over perfect, so I cant work it out....

  4. When was the fuel filter last changed? Not unknown for filters to clog up with old fuel residue which could cause fuel starvation as the revs rise. Also check air filters for condition and leaks on intakes.
Should keep you going for couple of hours? ;)

  5. I've got an ST2 that has been sitting for a year and so I'll be interested in knowing how this pans out. I would say that the fuel filter is a good shout. I did have an issue on my Monster (now deceased) a few years ago when it just stopped. This was due to a blocked fuel filter.

  6. My guess is that it’s firing on one cylinder.
Is it down on power generally?
    Could well be a plug.

  7. Seems to pick up really well up until 6k which makes me think its possibly a fuel issue, but going to drain the fuel and change fuel filter and see if that helps

  8. so nothings been changed since it last ran ok? what they all said ^ plus could be early signs of a split pressurised fuel hose inside tank, which is a common fault or fuel tank breather blocked. Fraught with slight risk, but you can rule the second one out by testing with fuel cap slightly ajar.
