Moving From Bmw To Ducati?

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Gyroscan, Feb 16, 2020.

  1. Hi, having just about had my fill of BMW, I am prepairing to shift over from my R1200GS TE to either the Multistatda 1260S or the 950S, not sure if I would be missing out on anything with the 950S?, any pointers/recomendations, anything I have to worry about?

  2. You’d miss the torque ime

  3. Hi Bradders, really, even on the 1260? I was hopeing that it would be a match at least?

  4. No I meant on the 950

Test ride one, but I think you’ll find that a bit more low down on the GS and just when you’d be changing gear the 126- is still; pulling: that’s where the extra power is.

  6. Welcome Dave

  7. Welcome @Gyroscan
    For what it’s worth I went from 1200 Multi (2012) to 1000XR (2015) to 1200GS Exclusive (2018 for 9 months) then to a 1260S last March.
Personally I didn’t enjoy the 1200gs I think it was coming down from the XR so missed the thrill and power...so should have gone straight to the 1260
As @bradders says go for the 1260 not the 950 and you’ll be fine :upyeah:

  12. welcome gyroscan, take the bigger engine option out for a spin. Then do the same with the 950' some people certainly have downsized when upgrading their mutley's. However most actually go for the bigger once they've had the 950. But you know you can own more bikes than one!! I have a beemer & duke..

  14. You can be a fan of the Germans, Japanese and Italians all at the same time. Go for the full axis of evil and defeat those pesky Allies on their Nortons, Royal Enfields and Heskeths!

GS has more low-down grunt, 1200 DVT is faster (but gets very flappy at speed), 1260 is reputedly better as is the Enduro... 950 is generally regarded as a sweet and capable creature.

  17. Thanks for that, is there anything negative on the 1260,,apart from the battery terminal??? , I do like the looks of the Multistrada, really need to try the 1260 see if it's more top heavy than the GS.

  18. Welcome to the Ducati fourm I sat on a BMW gs once didn't like it far to big for me I hope you enjoy the multistrada as much as I do

  20. Yes, that's one of the issues, it is a big bike, never got on with the tractor noises though, was going to go for the 1250 gs but I am so sick.of hearing about all the problems, for me, the Ducati 4 year guarantee says a lot about its reliability?
