Diavel 1260 - Strange Engine Sound

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by blackjonah, Feb 19, 2020.

  1. Hi, after some pause I jumped on it this morning and noticed that bike was making no power above 60mph and sounded really weird (not like before). Feels really frustrated.
I'm not really good as the mechanic but maybe there is something I could do by myself? Or should I ask some professional service? Near me there is this one - and they say that could do Ducati servicing and repairs, and reviews are mostly positive - but I'm not sure...

    Any advice folks?

  2. I guess, being it’s a 1260, that the bike is relatively new and within warranty? Get it back to the dealers to sort out.

  3. As he says ^^^^. I don't think there are any Ducati dealers in London anymore but it's best looked at by a franchised Ducati dealer if it's still under warranty. If it's out of warranty then call either Dave Robinson in Wandsworth or Ray Petty in Greenwich who'll give you an honest opinion and know their stuff. f you're looking at a mechanic in Chelsea I suspect Wandsworth will be closer. Best not to mess about if you don't know what you're doing but it's probably something simple if it was OK the last time you rode it.

  4. I would imagine that the 1260 is just as susceptible to the stuck exhaust valve.

  5. Probably the exhaust valve stuck.

  6. Derek beet me to it.

  7. What does the exhaust valve actually do anyway?

  8. as above but also worth checking if it's running on 2 cylinders:- carefully hold your hand close to exhaust near exit from each cylinder head to confirm hot.

  9. Stuck exhaust valve should show up as an EML with amber light on the dash shouldn't it?

  10. You only get an OBD warning when the valve is stuck in the open position, when it’s stuck in the closed position there is no light, just loss of power and bike won’t rev above 6k.
Like others have said, I’d bet on a stuck closed exhaust valve.

  12. Thanks a lot guys!

Yes, it is still under warranty, will look for a franchised Ducati dealer!

  13. Just free the valve and lubricate, see if that works first if main dealer is an issue.

  14. Corrected the typo for you:D

Sorreeeeee.......but it had to be done:D
