Any Painters & Decorators In ??

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Justatad, Feb 20, 2020.

  1. One of those pain in the ass jobs..er’ indoors hated the wallpaper , so we stripped / steamed the walls, the intention is to get all the paint off, fill where necessary & paint the walls
It’s taken me an hour to do a 2 foot square patch, steaming the wall & scraping the paint off..Just made a swift escape to grab a beer & post on here...someone save me from this ..
    Any ideas ??

  4. On the plus side, you are now in a position to bury the cable in the wall and lose that trunking

  5. You've started so you'll have to finish...

  6. I'd be calling a plasterer :D

  8. I agree with theskitz. I renovate houses and come across this quite a lot. PVA the walls and get it skimmed.

  12. Same as no @NoGutsNoGlory I'm a chippy you will get the wall all paperless then sand your fingers off then the first coat of emulsion will let you see the wall is still in bits o_O and have to fill and sand till you cry !

  13. We had similar situation, used paint stripper which seemed to soften it enough to make it easier to scrape off. Took two coats of stripper though.

  14. I had to do similar on my lads bedroom wall last year. Took ages and I bitched loads.

  15. If you are going to fill and sand it yourself use something like Ames which is much easier to sand once dry.

  16. As do we. We each do the stuff that we are best at and she’s best at that.

  17. That needs a skim... or a thick lining paper.
    Its how we plasterers roll....

  18. Pay a pro to skim it then finish it yourself don’t pay a decorator.
If you can piss you can paint.

  19. As mentioned above,
The best is skim the walls, will pay for its self next time it needs doing or selling.

You could make good and Line the walls, if so use MAV 1400 grade.

As you have now stripped it all off, you seem to be up against a lot of sound paint, i would stop steaming it off and just scrape/sand then put a coat of white paint over the lot, this will show up what needs filling,
I would say your making to much work for yourself trying to take all the paint off.
