748 Termignoni Heat Shield Questions

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by aceofhearts, Feb 22, 2020.

  1. Ive just fitted my new Termignoni exhausts to my '97 748, but it has extra heat shield location points that mean the original heat shield no longer fits. I didnt know that you could get Termis with different heat shield mounts so would appreciate advice on where to go with it next and possibly which heat shield combo I need to fit on this exhaust.

  4. Plenty of carbon fibre heat shields around but measure the spacings because there are different versions;

  6. yeah, with his current set up it looks like he'd need 2 heat shields and im not sure that would work....

  7. I think in total there are about 5 different types. Some Carbon Fibre ones used to be supplied with a new set of pipes and others are similar to the 998 type, which is pictured in one of the photos above.

    The link pipe on your bike has the early mountings for the square type of heat shield.

    If you fit carbon fibre heel guards you will find that this will shield quite a lot of the exhaust. This is my 748R engined 748S, with such a setup. IMG_0427.JPG

  8. hard to tell from that pic but do you have 2 heat shields on there or is that a big heel guard?

  11. The heel guard is a DP one and has a large heat shield. They are meant to be fitted behind the rearset mounting of aftermarket rearsets. Mine can be seen in the photo.

    I guess though that they would also fit behind stock rearsets, they might look a bit odd possibly

  12. is it wrong to get a boner everytime i see a 916 style bike?

  13. I did the sam as Red. Couldn’t get the heat shield to line up with the heel guard so bought the Corse type ones, re drilled the holes and spaced them as best I could.

  14. You can just fit the top heat shield on the bend but you’ll see the holes for the other heat shield on the link pipe or just fit a link pipe like this one 33B40758-E1AC-41CC-BA47-4F570B791ADA.jpeg

  15. it is but i dont think 2 will fit

  19. You would need to leave one tab on ( probably the bottom one ) to hold them together
