ebay advice

  1. hi guys just after a bit of advice and your thoughts. im advertising a motorbike suit on ebay with best offers. the suit is quite expensive and someone with 0 feedback and who has only just joined has offered me close to my buy it now price. he will pay by paypal but i am slightly hesitant due to no feedback but the guy has replied to all messages sent to him but i just have a nagging doubt.

he has then offered to bid using his business ebay which has over 200 feedback which is all good and seems legit and has made an offer.

there is just something nagging at me. if i accept the bid and he pays via paypal and i transfer the money. is there anything that can go wrong providing i post by signed for delivery and keep all the details?

    thanks all.

  2. I would think that once the money goes into Paypal and you then transfer it to your personal bank account it should be ok.Or you could ask for a personal cheque and send him the item once the cheque has cleared

  3. In theory PayPal can still refund the payment even if the money is in your bank account. The buyer would have to open a dispute though. Do everything you described plus take photos of the suit before posting and of the parcel as well just in case if he/she then claims that the item was damaged something.
The only other option would be collection in person or maybe meeting with him halfway.

  4. When you get the payment wait a few days before sending if you are in doubt.

My friend sold a mac, got paid by PayPal, the guy came to pick it up within an hour, when he went back in the house, PayPal had said it was a fraudulent payment.

Payment was from a business account but bought by an individual bidder.

Lost his mac, money and got laughed at all day by his mates.

  5. If they pay by paypal it it all goes wrong, you're covered up to a certain amount anyway. I would advice against collection from home thou, but as Icy says, somewhere halfway could work, a coffee store for example

  6. PayPal can still take funds back if something is a bit iffy, regardless of your PayPal balance as it takes the funds from your funding sourcebank. They also offer you NO support if the deal is done outside of ebay too.
For cheap stuff, I would happily deal outside of ebay but over £50, it will hurt a lot more if it goes shape of tit!

  7. Thanks for that useful bit of info.I must say for expensive items I have always dealt in well worn notes.

  8. paypal are very buyer biased and can take the money back at a later date

i was in a simlar sitation as my orginal ebay account had become a busniess account and i needed to sell some personal stuff so needed a new user id
you should be ok but why not get him to send you a message from his business account it cant hurt

as others have said, take photos of the condition and make sure you/he pays for fully insured (to the value of the auction) and recorded/signed for postage so you can track delivery and claim if something happens
even if just signed for he can claim item is lost or damaged and paypal will take the money/block your account.

  9. i'am having this problem now.......(as a seller).....sound advice mr srad.

  10. I've bought a few things lately on eBay and I generally opt to settle via PayPal, and at the payment stage usually choose to have funds deducted from my credit card. However I have noticed of late that PayPal offers the option to pay from your bank account, but they hold the money for 14 days before releasing funds to give you the chance to query the purchase.

  11. hmm im thinking i may offer to drive and meet half way. im not convinced that even if i have all the proof of postage that i wont lose out on both item and cash.

  12. Tell him you're a bit worried about his lack of feedback etc,and ask him to pay via paypal as a "gift",or a "service".Neither of those can be charged back after you've got the dosh.
Of course, the onus is then on him to put his faith in you,(i.e,that you will send the suit after you've had his money.
Been down this particular strasse sooo many times:if he's genuine,he'll understand your concerns and you'll work together to conclude the sale.If he's not,he won't pay....

  13. Oh yeah, and just getting a signature as proof of delivery isn't enough for paypal. You have to have a tracking number,so make sure whatever delivery service you use will provide that. Not all of them do,for instance if you just use Royal Mail,(I doubt you would but....),they don't track, just proof of delivery.
