  2. New season greetings.

The Vernal Equinox is when we have equal hours of darkness and light. From here it gets better (If it stops raining long enough to go outside).

It would be good if this the worst day for the Virus, but I fear not!

  7. They are regarded as cross quarters, winter solstice > spring equinox > summer solstice > Fall equinox.

  8. OK. I was thinking literally that equinoxes were equal somethings: day/night or something else.

  9. They are. equi - equal nox - night. The soltices are extremes - longest day and longest night.

  10. an Equinox is the time of year when the Sun is directly aligned perpendicular to the Earth's (off-kilter) axis i.e. 'over' the equator. Equinoxes - Latin for equal night... There are two per year as you might imagine.

  11. Want a random fact based on the Vernal Equinox?

No? I’ll tell you anyway :sleeping:

Ever wondered why Easter moves each year?

Because the date of Easter is based on the first Sunday following the first full moon, following the Vernal Equinox - which for ecclesiastical purposes is always the 21st March (even though the actual date varies e.g. this year it’s today)

The next full moon falls on April 7th hence Easter Sunday is the 12th April this year.

    I’m terrible at parties ;)

  14. sun rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west

Great Sphinx of Giza Looks directly at the spring equinox sunrise

If the full moon falls on Sunday, Easter gets pushed back a week so that it doesn’t coincide with Passover

it did exactly when it was built but the earth has shifted its axis a degree or so since then,
    same with Stonehenge
