Have you got any bees in your garden? It's a lovely sunny day and we have plenty of plants in flower in the garden that would normally attract worker bees-I have only seen one bee in the garden today. We had a few Humble bees earlier in the year but that was it. What's the situation where you are,and are there any bee keepers on the forum who could tell us what the true situation is regarding the apparent reduction in our bee population?
There's a hive not 20ft from my garden, so bees are not in short supply here. But there are an awful lot of wasps about early doors this year, and that's worrying - they'll attack a bee hive - the local bee-keeper is on red alert. The snails made an early appearance this year too, but I was ready for them
I had this conversation with my wife yesterday. Only one bee seen this year. My garden has a huge amount of Lavender in it; usually a bee magnet, but nought so far this year. Very sad
It is possible to revive bees with sugar solution.I have done it a few times when the poor things have run out of fuel.
was on the news last week, the deline of bees is due to neonicotinoid pesticides, widely blamed for bee declines around the world, sadly seems its true, hardly seen any bees in cornwall,i like bees, just the wasps im not keen on
Doesn't work every time but very satisfying when it does. When I first heard about it I thought it was a send up. I just dissolve sugar in water and put some on a small piece of card and place it close to the bee. Don't tell anyone I do this as I am a rufty tufty biker.
We have had quite a few here, but as many as usual...............There used to be hives not far away, so they seem to return each year. AL
