I have not even looked at the tools under the seat yet. I have a general idea of what is there from videos and posts... I just bought a tail bag. I put an air gauge, air pump, flat kit, and Disc lock in there. All in original packaging right now. I am sure I can pack that smaller. If I am going far? That will always come. I am not sure that I want my tools to be in there... I like riding with the Pillion cover on and would not put the bag on top when I am reasonably local. So I am looking at better ways to carry tools under the seat. And specifically carrying quality tools that match only what I am likely to do. I am often outside of a Cellphone signal. So, a few questions. What tools do you actually carry? and for what jobs? Did you upgrade the tool roll/packaging? Thanks in advance Rex
The only tool on my bike is riding it. Oh yeah. BTW, Greenflag don’t cover bikes over 16 (iirc) years old.
Seconded. Never had to use it in 20 years, touch wood. I always take a mobile phone, a credit / debit card, some cash, V sponge and microfibre cloth for the visor and enough ear plugs for the day. All my tools seem to centre around keeping me roadworthy.
Tyre pressure gauge, mini air pump, puncture repair kit, Leatherman utility tool and if abroad, rear wheel socket. I also carry a first responder’s first aid kit with 2 extra foil blankets. There is only so much you can actually do with a broken down, modern motorbike on the roadside so a comprehensive recovery policy is essential IMO. I have memories of the gear lever return spring popping off in the gearbox of my 1962 Norton 650ss in the French Maritime Alps back in 1975. Easiest thing in the world to lay the bike down on my rucksack and tent, remove the gearbox cover, replace the spring in position, do up the gearbox case, pick the bike up, load back up and resume my journey, much to the astonishment of the garage owner who let me wash my hands in his sink.
