On a similar subject as my rods for sale, I would like to identify a set of different rods that were in the same toy box. All dimensions are in millimeters and are nominal (nearest half mm). The rod thickness is 21mm at the main journal and 20.5mm at the small end. Other than a blue dot and the manufacturer's name, Pankl, in the casting, there are no identifying marks. I have a pair of 88mm diameter high compression pistons and the gap for the con rod measures 20.65mm. I have no idea if 150 microns (at ambient temp) is a big enough gap at running temperature but I suspect possibly not. If this is the case, that rules out the 748R. This is doing my head in and I'm slowly losing my mind here people so help will be much appreciated. Andy
all the ones you have in the same size you might want to weigh with a decent set of scales to match them as best you can as pairs you might also want to be a bit more accurate with the eye to eye measurements as FE says 124 is a good size for a lot of ducatis..
For a share in the profits.... The 999r rods are the same eye to eye as 1098 748 848 and pretty much all other water cooled ducati before panigale, except the 749R and 1198 1098R, which are longer and shorter respectively.
That’s a challenge with an ancient Draper vernier but realistically, that measurement could very well be 124mm. Andy
what about placing them flat on a piece of paper and drawing a circle inside each eye, centre the circle and measure then...
If it is 124mm then will fit 996, 998, 999, 1098 Not sure for 748, 888 or 916, as they have wider thickness on the small end
They are Ti rods OEM on 748R / 996SPS / 996R / 998R /999R. There is tight side clearance at the small end as they are small end located. Here is a pic, part number 15620191A.
Oh and BTW they were ID'd by Brad Black, who I have the privilege of knowing. If you haven't heard of him, his Ducati knowledge is encyclopedic. Have a read of a few of his tech reports to get some idea: http://www.bikeboy.org/performance.html
