Odb2 And 2009 Monster 1100?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Chris Hawkins, Apr 24, 2020.

  1. Question: What ODB2 Reader apps for an iPhone have you used successfully on this bike?
And What settings did you use?

I thought ODB2 was just supposed to work, but its not that easy...

    Bike: 2009 Ducati Monster 1100
Cable: Correct ODB2 to Ducati data port
    ODB2 Reader: ELM 327 Wifi ODB2 module
    Phone: iPhone
Software: Several. (DashCMD, inCarDoc, AutoDoctor, etc.)

Issue: Can't connect from SW to device.

Reader powers up correctly, phone connects to reader device ok, but can't read from bike.
    Tried several different apps
    Tried many protocols
I saw a post in a diff forum, for a Monster 1200, and I tried his steps, but it didn't work either.

  2. Hi Chris and welcome to the Forum:upyeah:

You need to research JP Diag and/or Guzzi Diag. These bits of software will permit you interrogate the ECU but run on a computer not the phone. Also, what ECU do you have on your 1100 as , I believe there is one made by Siemens that can’t be read other than with Ducati’s own data analyser.

Hsving said all that my knowledge in this area is sketchy and someone will be along shortly with a far greater, and first hand, knowledge than me.

Finally, whilst your question is Monster related I have come to learn this part of the Forum is not the most heavily populated and will therefore politely suggest to @El Toro that you may get a quicker response in the Technical Help section. However, that will be at the expense to you of a proper introduction in the Newbies Hangout:)

  3. @West Cork Paul- Thank you for your response. I now agree with you, and while I have seen others do what I am trying to do, I am beginning to suspect that my issue is that I may in fact have a Siemens ECU.

I will need to confirm that, looking into how to do so now.. TY

  4. Thread moved. Welcome Dave but why don’t you introduce yourself properly in the newbies section too :)

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  5. I too have a 2009 Monster 1100S and I recall reading the standard ECU was a Siemens unit which, at that time JP Diag and/or Guzzi Diag couldn’t interface with. Whether or not the same ECU is used on the non-S variant or not I don’t know but I would guess it is as the S variants differences are in the suspension (Ohlins) and a smattering of carbon fibre across the bike.

My bike has been upgraded to the Racing ECU complete with Termi exhausts (and no cat - not sure if you have those on the US spec bikes). Photos of my ECU are in this thread that also contains links to the relevant bits you’ll need.
