I bought myself a set of bar end mirrors for my Monster, should be a cinch to fit no? Well they’re a cinch to fit but getting one of the original Mickey Mouse Ear mirrors off is not a cinch. The bolt which secured it is either rusted in place or a previous mechanic applied so much locktite it’s permantly glues in there. I suspect it’s a combination of both but mostly the former. I’ve been soaking it with penetrating fluid for a few days now. I’ve attacked it with a 2’ breaker bar but all that’s happening if I’m not careful is I’m about to lose the head. I can’t apply heat as the mirror itself is plastic. Any suggestions anyone? TIA
Drill the head off, lift the mirror off, attack the stub that's left with a mole wrench or a small stilsons. ???
Oh no, you know if you lived in less damp an area things wouldn't be seized in, I look forward to page 10 of WCP and his adventures... Had similar on a oil filler aperture, used a impact driver with a torques wedged in. If I had tried to lever it out it would have just slowly chewed it out to a circle. I think the impact driver kinda shocked it into moving.
You could always leave it there instead, then add a few more mirrors, several spotlights and leg shields? You’ll confuse people whether it’s an homage to Quadrophenia, or a BM “Adventure” bike.
Well, that all worked extremely well. Thank you all, an arse about face thread. A bit of rust as you can see but it came out easy enough when I started turning it the correct way. Lesson learned - RTFM ps, sorry to disappoint @Harry Bell and others, I know how much you all love when I post a thread about something that’s seized
Some are and some aren’t. I had to get a left to right hand adaptor to fit Scrambler mirrors to an older Monster.
Nowt else to do on that one now, I reckon she’s finished bar getting a new rear tyre when they open up again. Beee-u-ti-ful
