another "interesting" proposal from brake wondering how this is going to be policed and how they will give points to cyclists who exceed the 20mph limits they would like imposed
20 mph is not that difficult on a push bike, in my case only for very short spurts, but still do-able. I was once overtake by a racing cyclist in the lorry as I was pulling out from an entrance, admittedly it takes a while to get my little lorry wound up and going, but he was not even in sight as I started pulling out.
ffs - whatever next?! How about you cant change the power train on your bicycle, or alter the steering geometry ;-)
Whats next? police with hand held cameras and GATSO's in cycle lanes? There go all our medals in the Olympics too
I've done 40mph on my mountain bike before, and my mate did somewhere near 50mph on his road bike. 20mph is usually what I average over a long ride. Madness.
I was stopped by a Policeman in Richmond Park (20mph limit) for overtaking his car going down a hill. He couldn't really enforce the limit on me for exactly the reason given above - there's no rule to have a speedo on a bike. In court, I'd have said that I had no idea how fast I was going. On a general point, I just googled 20mph speed limit and found many schemes calling for 20mph in residential zones to protect cyclists. As a cyclist, this is bullshit. Since 20mph was set in RP, we've seen cars and cyclists in close proximity for longer - cars can't get away from the riders and are therefore a risk and a nuisance to cyclists for longer than they would be with a higher limit. As motorcyclists, we limit the risk to ourselves on the road by buggering off asap so that there are no vehicles around us. Cyclists can't do that and lowering the speed limit will only make things worse.
Ditto, the only reason I knew was because of a fitness app on my phone! I can understand the need for a speed limit but 20mph is too low plus as we've all said how can we judge our speed as there's no legal requirement
I think you could say that if all the traffic is doing the same speed then they are most likely doing the limit. And Jerry, the limit in Richmond Park is 15mph lol
Des, are you talking about the off road limit? Dunno about that, can't do off-road The Royal Parks - Changes to Park Regulations - Speed lowered in Richmond Park BTW, your offer of garage space came at a difficult time for me. Is it still available?
Nooooo... What Brake are proposing is a 20mph limit in residential areas so we don't run the 'holier than thou' cyclists over. Bless 'em
Was thinking of the road limit. Thought it was 15mph, but obviously not!Yes, am sure we can do something on the garage. Will give you a call.
Me like Make them all have speedo's (for speed and wearing for fun) and huge licence plates, A4 size minimum. That should keep them within 20mph on it's own. Joking, speed limit yes but even me being fat I can still do 30mph without much hassle on road bike for short bursts at a time and 20mph is kind off below average.
cool. Phone is a bit dodgy atm and the battery keeps dying with no warning! Weekend probably best. And Lucaz, sod off
I am only caring for you and getting you ready for draught we been having lately and the wrong rain. From what I seen it turns in to flooding quite quickly
