749 Fairing

  1. After a clean full set of OEM fairing for a 06 749 mono.

  2. Yeah, I figured as much. I suspect I’ll end up just spraying the ones I have.

  3. Every mint/perfect/flawless used bodywork/tank I've bought wasn't and needs work anyway.

  4. In which case I’ll definitely get mine sprayed. At least you can feel assured of the outcome.

  5. Had some really shit paint jobs too.

Sorry, I've had a bad day.

  6. Lol.
Well thankfully for you it’s a new day. If you had a 749 with a scratch on the front lower fairing and seat cowl how would you go about fixing it?

  7. Red or yellow? Red is much easier to colour match.

Depends on the size as well, if it's small one of those chips-away companies may be better than a full respray.

Otherwise, new old stock of you can find it on eBay/etc.

Or just buy new if you want perfect.

Depends how bad it is and how good you want it.

  8. It’s red and it’s actually quite minor. Long story but it was my first ever bike that I purchased new when I was living in Australia in 2006. I immigrated to the UK in 2008 and in the following years sold all the bikes I had accumulated, 12 in total, but couldn’t bring myself to sell my beloved 749. I had much much nicer bikes but I had an emotional attachment to the 749 because it was my first.

Instead of leaving it in storage I loaned it to a mate. He dropped it. Along with a scratch on the lower front fairing and a very minor chip on the rear cowl, there was a few other damaged parts as well as some parts that had just weathered and needed replacing.

After 12 years of living in the UK and having it stored in Aus I finally imported it.

When I first saw the state it was in I immediately begun replacing all the damaged or aged parts. There’s really only the fairing left to repair. I’ve also fitted a new slipper clutch and a Termi system.

Now that it’s more or less back in really good condition I was thinking I’d sell it. Problem there is that I’ve misplaced all the paperwork and the red key so it’s worth near nothing.

Think I’ll get it looked at by a repairer and see what they can do. Failing that I might get the whole thing resprayed and keep it forever.
