  1. Can anyone help?
Been looking at a KTM imported from America and was wondering if there is any way I can do a check on this bike.
Guy selling says he's sorted all the paperwork out and the next buyer will be the first name on the V5.Mileage seems extremely low and he says it will be on a 15 plate.
The bike in question is a KTM RC8R.
Any major pitfalls in buying an import, are they easily enough to insure etc?
Only came across it yesterday so all tentative steps at the moment.
Any help at all we be appreciated.
    Thanks

  2. The RC8 was always more popular in the US than the UK, they even had a 1 make race series for it. The bike ceased production for the UK in 2010 and 2012 in the US so can’t see how it’s on a 15 plate. Rave reviews at launch but over time gremlins emerged, flaky paint, oil leaks, false neutrals and some had cams and valves replaced. Like Ducati, a loyal following despite issues. Andy

  3. Yeah,that's what I thought about the 15 plate.
Like I said, all very tentative at the moment but I've always like the look of them.
Looked in really good condition but I'm cautious at the best of times so I don't know.
Maybe one to give a miss.
    Thanks for your input.

  4. Quite a rare bike on which it would appear a meticulous service history is essential. I saw one quite recently filling up locally and remember seeing several during the last 4 or 5 years so still around. Andy

  5. Certificate of authenticity states the build date as FEB. 15.
Not seen it myself but could this be correct?
I'm with you, didn't think they where manufactured that late.

  6. That's interesting.
I remember the company line about why they were stopping production but didn't realise it was this late.
    The plot thickens.
    Thanks

  7. We have no local dealer up our way now since the Rocket Centre closed, so would be taking a bit of a punt without picking someone's brains first who knows about these bikes.
    Will sleep on it.

  8. They do like to dump oil, be cautious.
