The last couple of days of going out on the 996 and stopping for juice it's started doing this, engage starting motor then stops then picks up again and starts. It's got a brand new Yuasa battery new starter solenoid and heavy duty starter leads which were all tested in the full and recent desmo service, what am i missing?.
Is it as a result of one cylinder firing and as though timing for that fire was advanced enough to momentarily stop crank rotation dead?
Is there a cause to be worried about if so how do you cure it? It was perfect off the button for weeks but like i say the last few days it's started doing it.
I know you said you all the obvious points are good but I'd check the voltage when cranking. Sounds like low voltage or perhaps a bad earth connection. If the voltage is good while cranking I would check those leads. Mine corroded under the insulation. Black wire corrosion I believe some call it. New heavy duty leads fixed all that. Cranks like a demon.
I used to have a 250 superdream years ago, bloody bulletproof until i got rammed off the road by some fucking excuse for a living organism, luckily i was ok the bike totaled!!
Will check voltage tomorrow and see what it is cranking at!! The heavy duty cables are brand new and look it they were done on the desmo service, i've had a good look and it is all new but like you say look a bit deeper.
Taking on board what @Akorenika saud and the fact the starter cables are all new and recently fitted, could it be the bolt holding the new earth or one of the other new cables has vibrates loose
Possibly as you say it's new and we all know how a mechanics mind can wonder and forget to knip that nut and bolt or just worked loose, i think i will be spending some time in the garage tomorrow going through what i have picked up today. But cut off point is 2 o'clock and take the 900ss out for a spin, i need a insect shower!!
I shared a 50% ownership in a 125 superdream back in the day with a old friend as my first bike, just love it bombing around the kent/Surrey/Sussex lanes until it went bang with no oil in it.........and we said to each other i thought you checked the oil level.
One thing about the old Honda's they are tough as nails(with oil in ), i saw a beautiful standard and practically brand new 750/4 yesterday out near Loomies, really nice!!
Was your camera shy yesterday then...i've to say when i started out,and i only wanted to pass the test not ride for thirty odd years,if it wasn't a Honda i was not interested back then, how times have changed for me as i just love the British / european / very early american bikes and the japanese stuff from all decades.
same fate befell a hurriedly prepared Panther Solo for a Top Gear drive around Chobham Testing Grounds. The filming schedule couldn't be altered and so the car/driver were filmed while being towed instead, all trace of rope hidden from view of course. The chap who carried the can for that.. let's just say he had it coming.
A simple mistake that perhaps will catch out the best of them. On a more positive note it never happened to me again,so you live & learn as you pound the pavement in life.
The 750/4 pulled up as i was getting on my bike at the petrol station getting ready to go, had a good look though. I was a Honda man then a Suzuki man, was not really interested in Yamaha (i had two RD 200s and an RD 350). My British motorcycle LOVE is the 1949 vincent series c rapide, never going to happen!! Lottery win maybe
Me;Honda first choice because of their history with racing, reliability and resale values then Yamaha / Suzuki / Kawasaki, and don;t get me started on what i like as i'll be here all night listing stuff.
That's a bummer, never ever lost a motorcycle to a scumbag yet,but came very close as someone tried to remove a blade many moons ago without my permission, they cut a hole in the double up & open garage door and opened it out through the handle inside, but my gut feeling told me to move the bike to safer zone earlier that day....would love to have seen their faces with a empty garage.
It's the only bike iv'e had nicked thank fuck!! Some fuckers tried nicking my 900ss ie, butchered the ignition barrel even though it had a chain to a ground anchor and a throttle front brake lock, what the fuck were they going to do if they got it started, thick fuckers sums them up really!!
