Was running perfectly ok about 100 mikes ago, seems to have gradually got worse ,now from cold its doing it all the time It was start fine and idles perfectly ,clean revs and rides perfectly no misfiring or rough idle It seems much better when hot, will occasionally stall but hardly ever ,when cold every time you blip the throttle it now dies ,sometimes with a small pop ,if you gently lift the revs to 2k it doesn't do it and settles back to idle ok It's a 1996 biposto with term is and an ultimap eeprom ,new foam air filter I've set the TPS voltage no change ,I've fitted my spare set of complete throttle bodies and set those up ,exactly the same .Checked the temperature sensor resistance, compared to a spare one that's ok No fuel pipes splits ,o rings look ok.The engine has just been rebuilt with the valve shims all set up I don't have a ecu or standard eeprom to try ,that was going to be my next thing ,it's a 1.6m with the rubber bung Any ideas ? Thanks
Sounds like you've been thorough, out of interest, have you popped the bung out of the ECU and had a good look for signs of corrosion or taking on moisture? It ran ok on present Ultimap? also have you checked atmospheric temp sensor and particularly connector for corrosion? ditto crank sensor and connector - checked gap lately?
havent checked the atmospheric sensor yet was going to pull the plug and see if i can measure it in situ the ecu is clean ,ive only ridden the bike 3 times in total, about 100 or so miles and not in wet weather will have to read up on checking the crank sensor on here , i thought a crank sensor would give no spark or misfiring ? Just checked the sensor , it looks like new ,bike wont start when disconnected which is what i would expect ,its been gapped fine aswell the atmos sensor plug was clean too thanks
Yes the fast idle button is ok,it actually idles perfectly ,it only shuts down as you close the throttle or occasionally hold the throttle at 2k it will cut off too The top end was rebuilt at Louigi Moto, shims checked and set up ,new belts ,it ran perfectly at start up and was fine for the 1st 50 miles or so,and gradually got worse over the last 50 miles until it's doing it in constantly now unless its really hot and then its pretty much ok.Tried hairdryer in the ecu as it's definitely temp related ,but that made no difference
Take it back to them. It could be something sinister that needs addressing from the work. Esp after 50 miles.
You could have a gap that isn't correct, or collets that are not seated. Too much of a coincidence that you have problems so soon after.
I was going to go for fuel pump, filter and regulator next,do you think it's more likely valve clearance then? I could take it in somewhere ,I'm a long way from Bristol and was hoping to sort it out myself . Must admit most of the fuel supply faults I've had in the past ,or read about don't give symptoms or smooth idle, but I don't know when the filter was last replaced and can't check fuel pressure to the injectors at home Would be handy to have a spare ecu to simply plug in and run it to rule that out, good thing is that it's doing it all the time when cold now so as soon as it's fixed I should know
Tried both under seat relays as I had spare ones No difference I did notice twice after starting I held the revs steady at 2000 rpm and it instantly cut out
Carb icing? Or did you mean when engine was cold given that we are summertime Had Similar issues with a zx9r I had, even on a cold dewey morning
a crank sensor can break down in many ways displaying different symptoms and sometimes even heat related, can also act like a rev-limiter if poorly gapped. You say you've checked it, so on to other items.
Defo worth fitting a new fuel filter, these are often over looked as they're a bastard to fit. Check the area under the fuel pick up as well, very common to see this bunged up. http://bradthebikeboy.blogspot.com/2011/01/cleaning-under-fuel-pump-etc.html
Thank you I'm going to go for a new pump and filter next I think ,haven't had time to do much to it this week
Tried them a few times today no reply I've ordered a new pump and filter as well If the shims were all fitted and followers were checked, one was replaced as it had a wear mark on it ,is it even possible for them to have changed in 50 miles ?
