916 Airfilter Replacement Time

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by XH558, Jun 29, 2020.

  1. As you can see it's fecked and no band aid is going to fix this one anytime soon.Very disappointing as it was not that long ago that i looked under the hood, when it was much prettier to the eye.

It's been inplay for my six years ownership, plus many more years i guess, the question is do i replace it with the same format again, but having trouble locating one at the moment,i see JHP have their own version...but no stock available,or a Pipercross from Ebay at £54.00 delivered.

  2. Is that on the 996R? And can’t you use the std air tube filters?

  3. It's a 916 sps with large race carbon fiber airtubes without the brackets for insert filters.

  4. Go back to standard fitment piper cross get that shite out the air box.

  5. Ok. I did similar a few weeks ago. You could take this approach, I think it’s better at least then the over the throttle jobbies or try the BMC ones.

  7. What do mean i've had the hoover out with all the little bits:worried:,as i didn't realise what a bloody mess it had became.Do you mean the pipercross wrapover version for two trumpets.?

  8. As cookster has stated, piper cross. That is worrying deterioration on that current filter! :worried:

  9. I can see you have magnesium, very nice:yum..yes i've looked at that version which means drilling a couple of small holes for fixing purposes.

  10. Tell me about it,as i didn't sleep very well last night with the worry.

  11. I reckon it’s the way to go. They are about £115 for the BMCs but they last for a good 10 years.

  12. Are the grids bolted or are those rivets? Make sure it’s al tight and safe mate. Looking good.

  13. The mesh is riveted to the alloy channel and the channel bolted through the airbox. Nylocs and lock nuts on the outside. :upyeah:

  14. So that means the carbon air box needs removing for installation purposes as the frame is in the way for drilling / spanner works.?

  15. Yes, you’ll need to remove the airbox. Not a biggy though...
You won’t need to remove it for filter replacement though. You can push the filters in from the top.

  18. I use the over trumpet Pipercross filter, it's smaller than the itg so it fits much easier over the stacks. I'm very happy with it.

  19. This is my cheapest option at the minute and i won't dismiss it just yet,but i do like the BMC idea...but the downside it's twice the price, question is will it last twice as long.?

  20. I’ve just seen a post about this yesterday on another site. The bloke was saying that his BMCs were beginning to fall apart but that’s after nearly 10 years.
