Van Rental

  1. Hi
We are soon to move house and I am also considering collecting a bike from Germany.
So, I am wondering if any of you have recommendations for options to rent Vans cheaply in South London / Surrey / East Sussex. The trouble seems to be that they slap £150 on top when crossing the channel.
I am considering using a trailer instead but then the tunnel costs ramp up a lot.
Anybody has worked out a good formula for this?
    thanks

  2. Are you moving abroad?

If not then sounds like two different vans.

  3. Thread moved

  4. No - moving in the UK. As this is going to take us a few days / weekends I am after cheap options UK specific.
For Europe, I am trying to figure the most cost effective solution to go and fetch a bike in Germany (trailer of van)

  5. PM the guy Noobie suggested... recommended.

  6. Buy a cheap second hand van, use it and then sell it. Or keep it when you have realised how useful it is.

  8. That did cross my mind... insurance is the issue on a van.

  12. Van insurance has always turned out massively expensive everytime I had to organise one

  13. I bought a cheap old van last year and insurance was OK but I have the details at work. I'll dig them out tomorrow and let you know what I'm paying and who I'm with.

  14. Carl has collected a bike for me, excellent service and price.

  15. Thanks - my exprience was always that this was commercial insurance and even when stating Leisure only (as I would only use it to transport the bikes), it would be into the £500-700 add to that servicing / tax / etc and it was prohibitive for occasional use.

  16. Mines about £1500 a year but I have business use ‘hire and reward’ I have had a van on a commercial policy before and massively cheaper but illegal to receive payment for moving items not belonging to me

Many vans are insured the cheaper way yet still be man and van/removals etc totally illegal

Oh and if they are running on a commercial policy they then void the public liability and goods in transit policies they should also have, if they are receiving payment for moving goods not belonging to them.

  17. I'm paying way less than that, around £250 from memory but will confirm tomorrow.

  18. I’ve used Hertz in Sunbury for continental trips . Reasonable prices and no massive hike to the UK daily rate
