1100s hyper. When in neutral and you spin the front sprocket something catches as if it in between a gear. Any thoughts? I have got a video I did but not sure how to post it?
Long story short. Chain snapped whilst doing around 70. Instantly pulled the clutch in and pulled over. No damage to crank casing. Sent it in to local bike shop to have new chain & sprocket. They ring me to tell me the problem. When spinning front sprocket ( obviously with chain off ) in neutral at first it turns easily, say for four or five revolutions. Then you’ll hear and feel a catching sound, like something is loose and touching the top of the shaft internally. Then it will catch so you can’t turn the sprocket anymore. Then when you turn it the opposite direction for a second you can then turn it the right way again for roughly the same amount of revolutions until it catches again. you can hear it faintly and it definitely coming from inside the crank casing. Looks like it’s an engine out job and very expensive
commiserations, I think you could be right, quick reactions though. Did back wheel lock for a bit before you pulled clutch?
Nope. No lock up at all from back wheel. When I came to a stop the chain was in between the rear sprocket and the swinging arm so hadn’t even dragged it forward
If a selector fork has bent or broken your gearbox could/would have selected 2 gears at once, causing the gearbox to lock up. This usually results in one or both of the gearbox shafts ending up bent. Which is probably (the gearbox locking up) why your chain snapped. If this is the case, I'd look for a good 2nd hand cluster from a breaker, as a new one from Ducati would probably cost more than the bike's worth. Steve R
