Before I name & shame a dealer for putting a dangerous tyre back on a bike after changing a valve does anyone really care about Triumph dealers?
The photo has just arrived on my laptop so we're good to go. This tyre was removed to change a valve during an annual service then refitted and when the owner of the bike collected it she was asked to sign a disclaimer removing any responsibilty from the dealer and she was then told that if she carried on using it she had bigger balls than the service manager. No phone call during the day to tell her about it, no offer to fit a new tyre while the bike was being serviced, just here's your bike back and here's your problem. Now I reckon that's a pretty dodgy tyre and I'd soone ride with the canvas showing than ride far knowing the bead was damaged like that. Name & shame?
I bought a second hand bike. When I fitted a new front tyre, I discovered this is what I'd ridden to Prague with on the front. It had been disguised with black rubber glue that had also been pasted on the inside of the rim - you can see some of it on the tyre wall - was the glue a bodging bastard's attempt to stop it blowing out, or just a successful attempt to hide his tyre lever carnage? The white fleck in the (poor) third photo is the steel belt showing through. I was a bit cross
Is the dealer claiming that is how the tyre came off the bike? Or are they saying they did the damage because it was a rubbish tyre?
That tyre is the Bridgestone originally fitted to a Triumph Sprint purchased new just over 12 months ago. It was the first annual service for the bike and the tyre hasn't been removed for any reason previously. It's being taken off and changed on Friday and we'll get a report from the guys changing it then the report and the photo will go to Bridgestone who can either say it's a problem and they need to investigate it further or they say it was Triumphs fault from the original fitting or the dealer who has yet to be named did it when they removed it yesterday. I know where my money is going but my biggest issue with the dealer is that they fitted it back on, made her sign a disclaimer and sent her away.
Was the lady asked to sign or made to sign the disclaimer ? If she refused what would they have done, not given her the bike back ? I cant recall ever being asked to do anything like that by a bike or car garage, seems like very bad practice to me . I would name them, if everything you write is factually accurate I don't see how they can cause any trouble for you and you might prevent a future accident.
I can tell you right now, the tyre manufacturer, the importer and the fitters will close ranks......... Who is the importer of the tyre, do we know? AL
Anyway, they deserve to be named and shamed so here goes... Pure Triumph in Woburn Bedfordshire. It's my wifes bike and before she purchased it from them I said they were a dodgy bunch who should stick to selling cars but it was the right bike in the right colour and at the right price. They didn't even start off very well because she ordered it with a lowered shock and the day she was supposed to be collecting it they kept stalling her about collecting until at about 4pm they admitted that they'd sent the shock somewher else because they didn't have the right tools for the job and the bike wouldn't be ready for collection until the next day. Not good when you're supposed to be on a Ferry heading for France the next morning. When she finally collected it after using her other bike for the holiday it seemed to be sitting very upright on its side stand so I had a look and the stand that they said had been shortened to take into account the lower shock hadn't been touched. Not good. The first time she rode it in the dark she was lighting up low flying aircraft so I had a look and they'd left the front forks on factory settings and not altered the headlight beam to take into account the lowered shock. We're talking basics here. Yet she still took the bloody bike to them for an annual service! I don't think it'll be going back again
I had two new front tyres put on my car a couple years back and soon as they were done set off to a rugby match in Birmingham, my son was playing When finished we called for petrol and it was pointed out by a guy my tyre was flat. Over the road was kwik fit so called in there to see what the problem was Well the young lad that had put my tyres on had done the same thing as the pics up there and the tyre was not sealing to the rim it had been slowly going down as wasn't aware when driving. Imagine what could have happened on the motorway doesn't bear thinking about. When this happens whoever has done it should hold their hands up and rightly so bollocked by their manager this is DANGEROUS and any person who has any ounce of guts would do so It's disgusting the way some garages treat women!! Luckily for me the garage paid for the new tyre when I told them including pictures and the lad responsible had an ear full from me too. Absolutely disgusting service name and shame If the lady had taken that in like that I'm positive she would have noticed as wheel would be flat surely.
Thank you for naming them. I live quite close and know someone who is considering getting a bike from them so will show them this thread.
Oh Dear, that is basic stuff, and why on earth would you put the that tyre back on!! Run away and never go back, i would also seriously look over the rest of the bike, wouldn't trust them at all now. If they changed the oil check the sump plug??

It's really unfortunate that Triumph gave Flitwick Motorcycles a load of shit when they were selling their bikes so they gave it up because they really are a good bunch of guys who'll do anything to help. She was going to take it to Flitwick but the battery had died in under a year so she wanted a new one under warranty or it never would have gone back but she's not even getting a new battery because they couldn't get it booked in soon enough so she had a new battery fitted then took the knackered one over with her yesterday but that's not acceptable for a warranty claim. Avoid.
I don't know if she got a copy of the disclaimer or not because I'll not be home until Friday but if she did then that's even more of a problem for them. I'll be visiting on Saturday morning and having a chat which will involve me asking for a copy if she hasn't already got it. I honestly can't see why they didn't leave the tyre off and refuse to fit it because I wouldn't have put it anywhere near a motorbike again.
Hello....tis me...the person in question. The disclaimer was passed to me for signature "to cover our backsides". The shop was closing. They didnt offer to keep the bike or replace the tyre...just it was my problem now. Ive uploaded the disclaimer and having looked at it since it says at the bottom "Customer acknowledgment I have been advised of the above items, identified on my vehicle as either illegal, dangerous, or if left may cause further damage. I have declined to have them repaired at the time.". Actually....I didnt know about them until I turned up. Should I have been told prior to turning up (after a phone that said my service was complete) I would have told them to replace it. Villains...
Just looking at the disclaimer I see they have put needs rear tyre but the box at the bottom marked damaged isn't ticked! Looks like they're very much in the wrong to me! I would also suggest a call to Triumph re the standard of the dealers work! I don't think they'll be too happy to see how poorly you've been treated.
