Mike Tyson is making a “comeback” at the age of 53, fighting Roy Jones Junior in a charity exhibition bout on 12th Sept (16oz gloves and headgear will be worn) I’ve seen a few of his training vids and he looks absolutely immense, bordering on terrifying, as he’s in great condition again and seems to have lost none of his speed, movement or power. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....29170/mike-tyson-training-video-comeback/amp/ I think it’s pretty inspirational tbh, especially as he was on his ar*e and massively out of shape until a few years ago. It has also got me thinking. I fought in a few white collar bouts in the 00’s when it was a bit of a “thing” and was still training and (very) occasionally sparring until lockdown. My eldest boy also boxes but unlike me he’s actually quite handy and we were already planning to join a club in my new area so we can train together when he’s home from uni, more to get some quality time with each other than anything. However, I believe you can take part in WCB until the age of 55, so I’m thinking of giving it another go if I can get fit enough again. Madness Leonides, madness... I wonder if Jones Jr has watched this and is now regretting his decision?
Apparently.... Midlife crisis? What midlife crisis?! The mods should suggest it as a form of dispute resolution on here, like what You Tubers KSI and Paul Logan did a few years ago when they’d got into a flame war with each other. Forget banning and blocking - just give the protagonists 6 weeks to get in shape then put them in the ring together
It would be a lot more interesting if it was just a random draw thing, why wait for an argument to happen? Nip that shit in the bud!
That might lead to some terrible mismatches though. Imagine, say, @BIG M v. @Ducbird ! She’d effing kill him.
Tyson was an absolute one-off. Just take a look at his early knock downs. Never seen anything like his punching style. Truly terrifying, he had most opponents beaten before they stepped in the ring. In the end, his demons beat him but like you say he’s really turned that round now. Kudos to him
There’s a compilation of all his knockouts on YouTube and if you check the dates, you’ll see that he was fighting nearly every week throughout the second half of 1985 and the early part of 1986. Unfortunately for his oppos, he was putting them all to sleep within minutes and so wasn’t exactly getting much practice in. So then they’d line up another guy who would likewise end up on the canvas, after which it was “same time next week Mike?” and so on. Edit: here it is
Fighting at 53, with protective gear... Remember this is the ear biter! This is Hollywood nonsense money making. Then there's the ridculous clothes like Tyson Fury in a Mexican poncho -why? Or Deontay Wilder in some Marvel comics reject suit that he later blamed for losing the fight... Boxing is well on its way to becoming the new WWF. PS Mike Tyson was amazing. Twenty odd years ago...
Doubtless there are a few on here who would love to see that Unfortunately I’m a middleweight*, or else I’d have given him a shot** * Pre-lockdown. Now? Who knows.... ** I jest. I wouldn’t get in the ring with that man even if I was armed with a machine gun.
The funny thing is it's been sanctioned on the basis that they "take it easy". Have they not seen Tyson fight?
