Hello - looking for a good [perhaps treated] 749R Tank [my04] - not sure the manufacturing year is important - any leads etc most welcome - not looking to low ball anyone so a fair market price paid. My tank has a small bubble under the paint [around 15mm across] and just seems to be the first signs of the steel tank nearing its life - haven't yet taken it off to see underneath but it needed sorting now. Help most welcome.
How good is that - I haven't used the forum for some time and just when help is needed its there! Although I've sent a pm to Lorne250 I'm not sure there is any other way of making contact. Phil
Yes - noted that one before but waiting on here - time need to start taking the top end apart etc - its straightforward but not going to rush it. Phil
If you think Phil needs to be brave at £850 for a 749R tank, he'd would have to be bloody heroic if he was looking an 888 tank.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-F...153227?hash=item3b3c25618b:g:oEUAAOSwiDRdwbtF
@Italian Phil - if you are desperate to get back on the road (looking at how you were keen to buy the other tank that was advertised here for 650), why not just bite the bullet and get the brand new tank from Protwins? Ok it’s 850 quid but it is brand new and won’t have been affected by any nasty fuel bugs or ethanol or stuff. By the way, did you know that micro bugs grow in the fuel of commercial aircraft? If they are not treated and killed then they can eat through the metal of the wings and reduce their strength, seriously compromising safety.
Good price for a new one - over £2k list price as mentioned above... a non perfect one will cost £500 and need paint
Took the Tank off this afternoon - fuel lines were simple to disconnect from under the fuel pump and one electrical connector was easily unclipped. Pics attached of inside Tank - looks clean for an MY04. One pic shows the paint bubble which may be a tiny hole but fuel did not leak from it that I could see. The bubble is directly on the line of the manufacturing weld that increased the size of the Tank over that of the usual 749 / 999. Biggest hassle was removing the fuel pump - one or two projecting bits/connectors that made it only just come out with what seemed undue force. Taking it to a Tank renovator / painter asap. Phil
