Binding front wheel.

  1. Hi all,

took my wheels of today at donny to get some wets fitted. After fitting the front it doesn't spin as freely as it used to, almost as if the front brake is on a little(but isn't).

is this anything to worry about?

The wheel has to come out again to take the wets off/ road tyres fitted. If I get the same result after refitting could there be something amiss?

  2. Overtightened the spindle and crushed the bearings?

Did you bounce the forks before you clamped them up?

    Um.......

The obvious, is the front brake binding......can you hear it when you push it?

  3. As above did you bounce the forks before tightening everything up?

    My sequence goes something like..

    1. Ensure pads are pushed back into calipers
    2. Fit front wheel... Tap spindle through, hand tighten spindle
    3. Refit calipers and tighten bolts
    4. Tighten pinch bolts on non thread side of spindle
    5. Pump brakes
    6. Bounce forks
    7. Tighten spindle
    8. Tighten remaining pinch bolts

  4. Didn't bounce forks. Doh! Here's hoping there's no damage.

  5. Let's hope if anything, a bit of excess wear on the pads at leading / trailing edges.

  6. Just taken the wheel off. No signs of damage to the bearings. Think it might have been the pads rubbing on the discs. Will see how I go once the tyres are swapped over.

    cheers for your help.

  7. Let us know if the diagnosis is correct then?

  8. Well the wheels have just gone back on, followed your instructions and torqued everything up as it should be. Wheel now spins nice and free. As I didn't do it that way last time all I can think is that I over tightened the front axle nut, or something wasn't lined up properly.

    cheers for your advice.:upyeah:

  9. Good news..........
