Are the rapid bike evo units, universal? Or are they bike specific? Obviously the harnesses are specific to the bike.
They upload a generic set of paramaters to the unit for each model/year to give the starting point for self mapping etc. You can send the unit to be reloaded for a different bike as far as I understand, though unless you already owned one, I would imagine the cost of a used unit plus sending off for revamp would probably outweigh any savings over buying a new bike specific one. When I ordered mine, the dealer even wanted to know if the bike was modified at all (exh, air filter etc). So I am guessing dealers buy in blanks then have a database to do each customer base settings installation.
The Rapidbike evo can be moved between bikes - but as you say you need the bike specific loom. The looms for the 899, 1199, 959, and 1299 are the same though so you can buy a used one that has the map for any of those bikes and swap it. The basic map can be loaded using the Rapidbike Master Free software - it comes with maps for all bikes. However, the dealers have Rapidbike Master Pro - and you need that to reprogram the module to your specific bike. You can send the module away to Performance Parts ltd and they will reprogram your unit for about £30. That being said - I have a Rapidbike Evo that is programmed for an 1199 on my 959 and haven’t bothered to send it away as I have simply uploaded the map file using the free version of the software. The Evo only adjusts fuelling which is what the map contains and the rest of the parameters are the same across all of the that series of bikes so as far as I can see I would be paying just to have the name changed. I wouldn’t do this with the race version as that has bike specific ignition timings but unless someone can tell me different I think you can swap an Evo between any of the 4 bikes and just upload the map yourself.
Put a saved search on ebay and be patient - they do come up and I have seen one go for £200 recently.
thats the problem, got a termi exhaust waiting to fit, not sure its a good idea running with stock fueling,
I don’t think it would damage the bike - you just wouldn’t get optimal performance -does the termi not come with the upmap unlock key?
@LiveFast...... If you check the spec sheets on the RB site, the 959 unit has 500rpm rise in limiter, where the 1199 does not. Dunno if that is something you can dial in on the software yourself? I bought my unit and had the bike dyno tuned into the RB evo by a workshop. Haven't played myself at all.
No was a second hand one, just the system, have seen an upmap for just over 200 squid but thought the evo was a better option??
So it seems the 899 and the 959 you can increase the rev limit by 500rpm and on the 1199/1299 it’s 1000rpm. The only problem is - I can’t for the life of me see how you would make the change in the software! If anyone knows can they chime in?

Fitted my termi exhaust yesterday, Jesus what a faff, never had a more complicated to work on bike before, luckily all the bolts are made from some sort of soft Italian cheese. Took me 6 hours, my KTM RC8 took less than an hour lol
It’s a nightmare the first time while you work out all the bits that need to be removed just to get at it! Much quicker once you know how but still need a good selection of tools to get at the difficult to access nuts and bolts.
