Motorways To Trial 60mph Limits To Cut Pollution

  1. As you point out, traffic is already restricted to 50mph to install a managed motorway system with variable speed limits. How would increasing the speed limit help?

  2. That pretty hard to do when the English clown is already just six inches behind you. Have the Romanian & Poles got new ultra thin cars that can fit in the gap?

  3. I reckon there is a plan for a complete 50mph limit on all roads, because the majority of the population who want their own transport will only be able to afford to lease a very basic electric vehicle which will not be capable of exceeding 50.

  4. May I say, conspiracy theorist

  6. You have obviously never experienced foreign lorry drivers on the M20.
You get the feeling if they got any closer a condom might be required!

  7. Try driving a little less slowly?

  8. The M5 section between junctions 1 & 2 has had a speed limit down to 30 & 40 for what must have been an eternity. I understand the road works are now finished, but the speed limit is now 50 on that high level section.
How the hell are they measuring the pollution ?

  9. I am sorry for all of you...
Although, generally our national speed limit is 55mph. It is up to 75mph out west. We have NO speed cameras. we do have a few stop light cameras. and i think there was a threat on some toll roads to time you... But then people kept stopping on the side of the road before the tolls to wait. This lead to it costing more (Thats what it is really about over here... hidden taxes) to patrol than they were recovering. I have never heard of a single ticket.
Generally you get up to 15mph over on regular roads, and 20mph+ over on the highway.
If it is near the end of the day, but not crowded yet you will get flashed out of the left lane @85mph by a landscaping truck pulling a trailer full of mowers...

    BUT
One f-ing roundabout and the world comes to an end...

  10. They probably aren't measuring anything. Its likely just another guess and make it up as you go along soundbite decision from Cummings.

  11. Wont make much if any difference.
Research shows majority of dangerous pollution is from HGV's which are already speed limited.
As for cars the reduction in emissions is offset by the fact they will now be in the area longer.

  12. Couple of years back I received a basic speeding ticket on the way up to San Francisco from Big Sur... about 10Mph over the limit... it just started spitting rain.
Over $450 with all the extra extra's.... Thankfully he didn't write down our real speed.... about 38Mph over the 60Mph limit.
    Really nice CHiP's guy.

Was tempted to respond to his question as to "why I was going so xxxMPH" with "well that's all it does".... but sensible head kicked in.

  13. But why would we think that? They buy PPE from sweet shops, send RAF planes to Turkey to collect PPE that was never ordered. They U turn on almost every major policy. They have replaced all experienced cabinet ministers with Yes men, and cleared the Civil Service heads who would point out the hazards. Now they are boasting about breaking International treaties, whilst the country has never needed to sign so many in living memory.

I for one do not believe there is any reason to accept the policies as thought out, simply because the evidence suggests the opposite.

  14. A bit difficult when you are in an average speed controlled) zone, unless you want a ticket.
Easter European lorry drivers don’t get fined so don’t care.
One of my mates had his car written off by a Romanian lorry driver who t boned him.

  15. Yeah you need to know the customs and timing... They generally frown from tickets near rush hour because then the entire highway slows down. And they might inconvenience someone important. or cause people to complain even more about traffic to their leaders.
In NC they will not give you 11mph over on the highway (State Police)... But on secondary roads it is a near free for all (Local Police or the Sheriff). Full logging trucks at 80+ MPH on 2 lane roads there...
P.S. out in the country the Sheriff rarely gives tickets to the locals... You VOTE for them!

Here in GA we have super speeder laws which are very severe... I think it starts at 20 over or less depending on the road...
Of course, unless you are really moving, or an A$$ to the police they mark it WAAAAYY down...
so you dont have to go to court... and dont get any points on your license...
It is just a hidden tax. They dont want you to go to court because you are innocent if the police do not show up. and the courts dont care if you are guilty of speeding or at what speed because they will say dismissed... As long as you pay the court fees (But not any fines) because that is how they collect their hidden taxes.
