I May Be An Old Cart

  1. In my list of three bikes that I want to choose from, after I get my compensation money and a driving license, is the KTM 790 Adventure - it is my light and small option if I find the weight of bigger bike too much. But, the 2020 KTM has the fuel tank low by the engine. I understand the science in their thinking but I think that it looks terrible!

  6. I am not in a rush. I've already got bikes that I could make roadworthy and I have no riding kit! I'll wait to get some money and then get some new kit. And get one or both of the Ducatis out.

Oh, and get my hip sorted out so that I can actually get aboard a bike.

I'll probably get a car and stick with my old Ducatis, first. Can't make up my mind on the car front: Electric at about £36 g; new petrol at half that (approx); or petrol second hand at around 8-10k. Although electric looked too expensive, I'll be greener than a bogey and it will probably last me a lifetime - although I have a feeling that battery technology must improve to allow fast charging and better range. So, buying electric too soon might not be for the best and so getting a used petrol and watching the battery technology improve might be the best option.

  7. V8 Mate, You can't be old enough to head to the dark side yet :joy:, tell tale sign of going weird is to buy a VOLVO :scream:

  8. The car purchase won't be anything flashy and will just be the cheapest option in whatever group that I pick.

My elder sister used to work for SKF bearings in Sweden and they started Volvo. She did used to have a Volvo company car. Modern Volvos are not too bad.

  9. unless it’s a polestar version! :eyes:

  10. Re: Volvo as i'm sure you know Perry, it's latin for "I roll", I will always think they missed a trick there somehow when that term became popular a few years ago but maybe the link wasn't such a clear-cut one.

  11. Hence SKF's (who make bearings) connection with Volvo.

  12. err, yes, that’s what I was getting at. :upyeah:

  13. Should be some cheap deals for the 790 adventure now. KTM just announced the 890 version today.

  14. Have you considered the latest Trumpet 900?

  15. I did but wanted to simplify things a bit. But Triumph are not ruled out. When we can go back to Fowlers and can drink coffee in their inside cafe, I will look at the Triumph range again to see if the bikes are not too heavy for me Since Fowlers do every make that I'm interested in - apart from Ducati, or 29k electric Harleys(!) - it will be well worth a lookl

Much of my kit came from Fowlers (Weise) and I was a bit anti-Weise because it didn't protect me - as in I smash in to a car, write my bike off, and expect to skip away thinking, "Well, that wasn't too bad!". I was wearing an Arai helmet and did get a brain bleed; but I haven't been thinking that I'll never buy another Arai again. Bit of mixed up thinking....

The Tiger 800 is well in the list! £12,470 with touring pack and centre-stand, so good value!!! When we next go to Fowlers, I'll ask them about it. Fowlers could do Triumph, KTM, and Guzzi, which leaves Riders for Ducati. All in Bristol and all with coffee bars (when this madness ends)! And Riders could do the electric Harley if I really go mad!

  17. The 900 has won a few Bike of the Year awards, is 5kg lighter than the 800 and has a 1 litre bigger fuel tank, plus a better engine and latest electronics, for a not too dissimilar cost (by the time you've spec'd the 800).

FWIW, my mate had a 1200 Explorer and downsized to the 900 and doesn't miss the bigger bike in any way.

  18. I was assuming that the 800 was lighter. The 900 does look more appealing - more power, bigger tank, and lighter. No downside - maybe apart from price, but I don't GAF!
