Simple question really, how many on here have one? There can't be many around. I've done @350 miles on the really cheap 53 plate one I picked up recently, and I have to say I'm impressed. But remember of course I'm comparing it to my old Carbie M900 and 900SS. I knew the engine was a peach having borrowed a M1000 and Multi 1000, but I wasn't prepared for the bike to be quite so nice to ride. I think the Torquey 2-valve engine suits my lazy riding style, and despite what everyone on the web says, I find it acceptably comfy. I do have some plans for it, but nothing that won't enable it to be put back to standard at some point. Nasher.
I have an 1100 Multistrada and the engine is fantastic, being very similar to the 1000 so I know what you mean. Also owning a 900SSie I can appreciate the ergonomics, which is why I will be selling it. I'm too tall (6'4" and its a painful experience. ) I did try to get a 1000, but the asking price can be quite high. If you can get on with the riding position, then I can only imagine how great it is, as the 900 engine is also very nice with fuel injection, the 1000 is a desirable upgrade.
Got a poorly one at the moment but I find her very comfy and plenty fast compared to today's standards
Ah, Obelix, a fellow appreciator. What's poorly with yours? And Desmoquattro, I can understand how your 6'4" frame may be a bit cramped. I'm 6' and find it just right. I believe a lot have complained the bars are too low and too far away, so perhaps I'm just the right size for it. Nasher
I owned a 900ssie from 2000-2005 and absolutely loved it so I jumped at the chance of a 1000ssie DS that came up not so long ago. Big mistake, somehow over the 15 year gap the riding position had morphed from something I could tolerate for hours to a form of torture after just 15 minutes so I had to sell it. I have same engine in my Monster and think it is possibly the best air cooled engine Ducati has made .
Interesting Dukesox that you've found that. If it's any consolation I don't think it's an age thing. it must just be a specific size thing. I really do find it comfy enough to be on for more than an hour, and I'm no fit young athlete. Let's just say I'm over 50, above average fit and strong, 6' and 15 stone. But a life of Rugby, water skiing and motorcycles has left me with more than a few aches and pains. So really shouldn't find it comfy. I've put clip-ons on my old Carbie M900, and actually the 1000SS is a little more comfy after @1/2hr. Nasher.
I am doomed with bikes not willing to start.....suspected failed starter. I am about to put it back together shortly.
Heading towards 60, 5`10" ,reasonably fit and active but like you decades of sports have taken their toll. The last year or so I have started to get mild arthritis too so that may well be the problem. As you know I have a carby SS and that is way more comfy for me at present.
I find that the ie is ok for rides of 100 miles or so but neck ache sets in for me after that. My bike has the shorter gearing as well so it feels pretty nippy up to 120 ish but that’s about it top speed wise. I think that You would have to spend a lot on a carby 900 to get it up to stock 1000 power as mentioned above it’s a cracking road bike engine.
